Title: Xcam2 wide-eye & software review
Post by: azhomeguy on October 08, 2006, 04:25:20 PM
I have 3 wireless Xcam2 wide-eye cameras with multiview and webview

Purchased in July 2006

I use them for surveillance at my personal residence, 1 cam in backyard, 1 in front, 1 on side of house and another Xcam inside.

This package has worked well for me.  I have no reception problems, images are very clear and I'm happy with the system.
I run multiview on a Gateway laptop with Windows XP and have had no major problems.

I HAVE had problems with webview, more specifically connection problems.  I get the "socket timed out" error message and after six weeks of troubleshooting finally gave up on webview.  I now subscribe to Gotomypc.com where I can access multiview on my laptop from any internet connection and it works flawlessly!

I would purchase another camera or security device from X10, but would hesitate about buying any more software.

Overall a positive experience.

You never had any problems with the software? I have the same cam but a lot of moisture in the lens builds up hard to see on my pc . Activehome pro software work fine until I hooked up USB cable and Iwitness software. Will only run for a little while until windows closes Activehome pro. I'm new to this site so was hoping for some feedback.

I have 4 wide eye color cams which I have used for several years and they still work like new, recording to 2 VCRs  and now have added multi-view which is really great.  I have the vcr and computer connected to the same video sender.  I have 3 black and white for night time wired and going to 3 vcrs .  It's really a good system. I am happy.  All my cameras are inside too, but facing the outside. I also have pan and tilt on three of the color cams.  The vanguard is interesting too me and I may add those later for a better night vision.

Better read this before you buy that Vanguard! I was thinking about one until I read this.
