Hi, I'm new to Home Automation, and I was wondering if I could get some ideas of where to begin.
-First of all, do I have to become a contractor to do installations?
-Second, do I need to have the Comptia HTI certification.
-Is there a special course and testing to become a contractor for low voltage applications?
I have 6 yrs in Industrial Automation, where I used strictly ladder logic, and very different controls, than what I am seeing in home automation systems. I have tons of Industrial automation certification and an AAS degree in industrial Electronics. But that is not going to help me in Home Automation. If someone could tell me what it takes to get my business started I would appreciate it.

It really depends on the state you're in. Delaware, for example, requires a $400 license, no proof you know anything other than how to count to 400. NJ is a lot more stringent, PA is by the locality, with Philly requiring union membership.
You probably have a contact number or web site for your local or state government. They will give you all the pertinent licensing and regulatory requirements.
