Title: Need help with basic setup!
Post by: shettle on October 23, 2007, 12:48:35 AM
Hi guys - I'm a noob here and I need some assistance getting my setup to work. I wanted to start small and simple and now I feel like a dummy because I couldn't even get the easiest setup to work  :( . So here I am.

I purchased this:

1   Xray Vision USB Converter   VA11A
1   Small Video receiver (no audio)   VR36A
1   XCAM2 Camera w/PS (XM13A)   XX16A

I have it installed correctly with the VA11A drivers loaded after the PC Intel Camera initially loaded and I updated the drivers. I have the XRay vision software installed also and I don't get any error messages. When I turn the software on, I just get a black screen with no picture. I've tried putting the transmitter and receive as close as possible to make sure I didn't get any interference. Also, I noticed on the XRay screen, there is a 'transmitter' meter up the left side and I'm not getting any sort of reading on that if that's what it's supposed to do. I've made sure the trans and receiver are on the same channel. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!!

There could be 2 problems!
You will most likely need a X10 remote to turn on/off the cam.  ;)
Do you have a x10 remote/palm pad/PC interface to turn it on//off?
Xray Vision works with the Firecracker CM17A (http://www.x10.com/products/x10_cm17a.htm) or the CM19A (http://www.x10.com/products/x10_cm19a.htm) PC interface. ( one or the other usualy included in a kit for a better value)You'll need one if you intend to add more cams latter on any ways! ;)

Thanks for the quick reply Tuice!

I've loaded the correct drivers - this I know! But I haven't connected it to a TV yet to look for a picture. I don't have a remote with the camera and I have long wondered if it was even on just because I plugged it in! I bought what was advertised as a kit but I don't think I have something. Maybe it's the remote - here's what I got (what's listed on the packing slip)

IN51A SINGLE CAMERA KIT INSTRUCTIONS
IN76A 1 YEAR FULL REPLACEMENT WARRANTY INSTRUCTION
SW15A XRAY VISION SOFTWARE; X10.COM DOWNLOAD
VA11A USB VIDEO CAPTURE ADAPTER
VR36A SMALL VIDEO RECEIVER (NO AUDIO)
WA1-100 1 YEAR FULL REPLACEMENT WARRANTY
XX11A SCANCAM WITH ADDRESSABLE POWER SUPPLY

Would it be common to purchase a package and not get the full amount of hardware needed to make the system work? I'm very new to this so take it easy on me!!!
