Post by: Tuicemen on February 02, 2008, 04:06:24 PM
Finally have a release version posted! ::) :-[
The next step up from X10WavPlayer!
Some of those that frequent the Homeautomation chat room (http://bdshost.com/ac/) have been waiting for this for a while!
What can it do?
Used with the Windows Comand option you can have AHP open it Via a windows command or batch file to:Used on its Own?:

What It can't do?

Where Can you Find it?

Thanks KDR!
It does take a bit of setting up! But playing around most users will figure it out! ;)
For those that can't they can Post here or Private message me!
There was a problem with running the e-mail batch file from AHP but I think that is fixed with V2.0.0.1

I never programed it for that! Just threw a voice modem with call id enabled from the phone company!
The program does see all communication devices so adding it as the modem and testing may result in success! ::) ???
Do let me Know if that works for you!
You may have inadvertently found a hidden option! ::)

Although all the "people" created by Tuicemen are very nice, the "Operator" has been my favorite since introduced!

I even added her image to my BVC Fan Page (http://davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm)... which of course links back to Tuicemen's Page.

You are BOTH doing great work! And are a true credit to the X10 Community of Users.

Thank-You!!

No. Thank You Dave!
To be honest I spent way more time on the "operator" face!  And it shows! ;)
Perhaps with time the others will get better as I play and add to them! ::) ;)

Bill tell your wife, I'm sorry those two never made the top five in the Poll I conducted at work!
Although Sean Connery was in the top 10! ;)

While working on AlertDialer I added some code that I thought would be beneficial to PC Companion users!
So here is a list of adds and fixes:

For the longest time a bug with the windows command option  in AHP has given me issues as no doubt the rest of you!
I had thought of Just having PC Companion listen for X10 signals and act on them as other applications do but then the Idea of using it for security sounds would not be possible ::) :(
For those that like and use PC Companion but for some reason it has stopped working with AHP there is a fix: Topic: Problem with Batch files executing? (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=15010.msg83552#msg83552)
actually a few but one is looking very promising! ;)
It is a shame that end users have to fix problems with X10 Software but some times workarounds have some unforeseen advantages! ;)

Another new release  :-[  :'
2.0.1.4
Finally have this setup to allow any X10 PC compatible remote (I Hope)! You can still choose just the JR20A if you have that ( gives a bit more security)
I'll add code for other specific remotes as users supply the codes for them. ( My wife would kill me if I bought another) :'
Also added the ability to view your active Camera in the Animated face screen provided another program that can view it isn't open (including AHP)
for a list of other fixes/adds and the update use the auto update button!
If you don't already have it (shame on you  rofl ) you can use the link in my previous post!

As I slowly add X10 PC remote functions I'm wondering what other PC remote options users would like to see?  ??? :'
In the current release (2.0.1.6) I've added the ability for one to add sound to almost all RF receives!
If you find one I missed that the CM15A with see let me know and I'll add it.
I'd love to add support for more specific remotes but funds are not there for me to go out and get others to test!
Subtile Donation Hint :-[
Think I'd have to hide new remotes as my wife thinks I have to many now!  rofl
While I'm on the quest for User Input:
I also would love to hear suggestions for other adds (fixes) to the program as well as hear how your using it!
Many times the end users come up with cool ways to use software that others never think of!

****New Update 3.0.0.0****
Some of you have been waiting for this one! :-[
It has XCL (floorplan display) embeded in it!
There are many other added features
DVDs now play in their own window and are play able with remote control!
Media style graphics display in the face graphic window when playing mp3s,CDs or playlists
yes you may now play a Mediaplayer play list
For those already using XCL you can save your configuration file as FPSettings.xml and place it in the PC Companion folder.
That will save you from rebulding it! ;)

Note: the Auto updater isn't working at the moment server is too slow I think! ::) :'
So you can  get it here (http://www.tuicemen.com/downloads/PC_Companion_Setup.exe)

:-[ Seems  :-[ I've finaly nailed down the problem with Companion not closing when a sound file was played from a batch file (at least in all my tests here :-[ )
Also removed graphic from displaying when a sound file is played from a batch file.
If there is a need for this let me know and I'll add the option to display!
3.0.0.4 should now be on the server!

Hey Tuicemen, HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Just downloaded the new version....neat program!

Can't get it to select another video source besides the va11a, though. Is it only supposed to work with the va11a?

It will work with any video capture device!
But I think it loads the first one it finds! That was done intentionally to speed up display
I did rework it when I added the floorplan view so I'll have another look at it!
I the mean time disconnect the VA11A from the PC and fire up the cam screen it should pick up the other capture device on your PC! (mine does using a cheep USB web cam)
 >!
BaBaLou.
At the moment only the light is available the way the devices are created at runtime somewhat limits the graphics.
I've played with the idea of having a user configureable on/off graphic but decided on this approach if enough people wish it as user configurable, I'll add the option
PC Companion will work with any version of AHP or even with out AHP! With out AHP installed you will however need the SDK Redistributable components installed.

I disconnected the va11a, and it still won't apply my other video source, which is a usb2 tv tuner. When a window pops open for you to choose the video source, I select my tv tuner, press Apply, and OK, but still no go. And in the Camera Preview window it always shows Microsoft WDM Image Capture (Win32) as the video source.

I'll look into this ???
When you have the option to select the video source what else is showing?
Is there a feed coming into the TVtuner? Power on?
I know if I don't have my cam reciever turned on I get the option to pick a video source!

Tuicemen,
First off, in order to get the option to select the video source to pop up, I first have to start my usb2 tv tuner application, then while it's running I try to start the PC Companion Cams, and a window pops up and says to only run one application at a time, and then after I close that, the window pops up to select video source. I then close my usb2 tv tuner application, and select usb2 tv tuner from the 2 choices on the select video source drop down options. If I have the va11a plugged in, it will show as the other option. So the only 2 options I ever have are my usb2 tv tuner or the va11a depending on whether or not they are plugged in.

There is always a feed to both the TVtuner and the va11a, and yes, the power is on and the receiver is on.

What I'd like to know is why MS WDM Image Capture (Win32) shows in the VideoSource of the Camera Preview. Shouldn't it be either the va11a or the TVtuner?

The MS WDM Image Capture (Win32) shows in the VideoSource  because Windows is using video input you select as the capture device!
This is most likely because both are USB devices.
That is most likely why your getting the window pop up and saying to only run one application at a time!
AHP and Companion can't use the same capture device at the same time! You'll find this with other apps even windows movie maker can't!
Seems this may be your issue.
Make sure only PC Companion is running before you try to access the capture card!
Once Companion Camera display is running start AHP, this is a limitation of the app and unfortunately both Companion and AHP have that limitation! :(
I've been looking for a way for the two to use the same device to no avail so far!

Tuicemen, I know that already. The only reason I run both at the same time is that I found it is the only way to get the Select Video Source window to pop up so I can change my video source. Is there another way to get the Select Video Source window to display when you want to change your video source?

At the moment no!
But I'll add the option in a future release!
Originaly I had it pop up but I disabled it as most users only have one video capture source.
Some times I fail to see the bigger picture ::) :'  :-[

Well I hope it's not the VA11A!

"Resume View" will make Select Video Source pop up, Tuicemen, at least it does for me.

Oh how I wish I could get my TVtuner to work with this... :'(  ...the picture and recording is sooooo much better than with the VA11A.

Oh how I wish I could get my TVtuner to work with this... :'(  ...the picture and recording is sooooo much better than with the VA11A.
I always try to accommodate ;) :D ;D  ::) :'
How ever Microsoft seems to add USB video devices at random (usually first come first added but not always ::)  or so I'm told)
So if your tvtuner is the first device added, it should be picked up automatically and that is the view you should see! (again not always, many reasons)
Now as a first step I've added a button to switch USB capture devices (pops up the Select Video Source, turns off the display until device is selected then turns on the display using video source selected )
This works in my tests with other USB video sources ::) :'
Of coarse this only will work if the selected device isn't in use by some other program  ::) :'
I hope this will solve your issue If not I'll have to look at adding some other code to find and load your tuner :-[ and since I don't have your turner card it may prove to be a major undertaking! :'(
I hope to have a update with the Button add posted on the server later today!

Ok, Version 3.0.0.5 is now on the server!
First thing you'll notice is the Icon changes in the floorPlan view the light graphic will only show if the device name ends with light or lamp!
If not a default graphic loads these can be changes but not renamed or deleted (found in the FloorPlan folder)
I plan to have Companion load images based on the last part of the device name eg cam or camera will display a cam ON/OFF, light or light displays the lightbulb ON/OFF.... un recognized will display the default images! I'm open to suggestions here and if you have a graphic you'd like in the program e-mail the image/s to me
Added a button to switch USB video capture devices (some have more then one they wish to use)
Fixed so the info text appears when you click on a device

Tuicemen, I tried it but no go with changing the video source. I can change the Video Device, but under "Select a Video Source" it keeps reverting back to S-Video after I have changed it to either Composite or Video Tuner>Apply>OK. I think this may be the problem.

S-Video, Composite and Video Tuner are controls of your tuner card! the select video source screen that pops up is  a Windows video adaptor screen Companion has no control over it! :(
Since I don't have your card  :' I'm guessing here! Try starting up your ATI software first and set it's setting to composite or turner then start Companion!
Since it is defalting to S-Video I'm wondering if that is the defalt setting of the card? ??? Is there a way to set its default start up input?
The old ATI AIW card I had you had to change the input from the ATI software once you shut it down it stayed in that mode!
Sorry I'm tapped for suggestions right now! :-[

Just A quick note for those updating to 3.0.1.1
I've added the option to size your device icons in preperation for thouse that wish to test run on a small touch screen!
If you start the FloorPlan and it appears you have lost all settings (you haven't) go into options and set your device graphic size!
New Features:

The new all lights on and all Devices Off buttons location may change based on user input

I've just released another update which fixes many Windows 7 issues!
Not sure if these were noticeable in Vista or not (no feed Back)! ::) :'
The Voice recognition is great in 7 so I added text to some Buttons as that's how 7 sees and activates them!
About the only fix noticeable to every one else is the display text when you click the save button.
The only add noticeable is the "FPlanBnClick.wav" I added to the sound folder windows 7 renamed a lot of the system sounds so I suspect Vista did too! ::) :'
This will allow you to change that sound by renaming another one for now. (I'll add a File Selection option for it latter)
The Down load location is still the same !

I think you've got it! I really think BVC (http://davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm) and PC Companion (and maybe also AlertDialer)... are going to turn Home Automation on it head! You and Bill have created the MUST HAVE combo of Home Automation software. Everything that everyone has wanted to do with a Home Automation setup... you two have included in your combined software(s).

I am excited about all the new stuff I am going to be able to do/HAVE. But at the same time I also wonder.. if this will also mean.. a new fan Site (http://davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm).. and more Videos to my YouTube Channel (http://www.youtube.com/suitmanIM).

Oh well. Thanks Tuice!.... its all good!

Well not quit but we are working on it as we improve what we've already done! ;)
As I play with Windows 7 I've found some issues with BVC and PC Companion (of which I've e-mailed Bill about) all of which are very minor! ;)
I've been working hard at making Companion work smooth with BVC!

I agree ... a manual is much needed for both PC Companion and BVC.  A lot of the functions and setups are just not intuitive.  I seem to spend a lot of time through trial and error until I'm frustrated and then I finally give up.  I would like to contribute a donation ... but I'm just not able to use a lot of the functions because of the lack of a user manual.  My bad!!!!! :-[

many of us over at KDR's chat are experienced users of both BVC and Companion (even the unlocked version with even more features).  Questions are gladly answered.

Yes... I actually broke down and created UN-offical manual for BVC. It was on my old Geocities Site and is no longer available.

Guess that is where the money is(though I doubt it!)
;) :) :D ;D
I tried to make the FloorPlan mode as simple to use as possible, and from what I've heard even one users 4 year old uses it! :D ;D
True Companion can be involved if you plan to use everyone of it's feature but most users don't!  :(

I'm currently debugging a big add which adds ability to show each floor in a separate screen with a security lock! (over 2,000 lines of code)
Once I have all the bugs I can find sorted out I'll release it and get to work on a manual!  :'

In the mean time I'd love to hear how some of you are using PC Companion as I'm sure others would as well!
Most of the time developers can't see all the possibilities of their work for the see of code! rofl
-:) Hey it might even lead to the addition of more features!

OK, looks like the time has come!
The new release  is on the server but not much in it for non supporters! :( Other then some small display fixes.
I'll now spend some time throwing together a manual and hopefully regenerate some interest in PC Companion (http://www.angelfire.com/in2/ontkoi/X10AHP/PcCompanion.html) ! ;)

PC Companion Manual included in PC Companion since 3.0.2.1 (http://tuicemen.com/Downloads/companionmanual.zip)
If someone wants to polish it up feel free! I'll see about adding it into the program In a future Update!

Thanks Don N,
I have noticed a couple of bugs while working on the Manual Seems Murphy got into my code ::) :'
Messed up some stuff like loading the Sound recorder and the Camera view load. Maybe a conflict will what I added for Windows 7 in any case I have those worked out now.
I gave Murphy his eviction notice some time ago so not sure if he snuck back in or I missed these from his last visit  :-[
The Manual is still just in Draft stage much improvement needed to it!  :-[

A perfect manual is never needed. Just a good idea as to what can be done... and a sketchy idea as to how to do it... is all most users will ever need.

I've since included how to use the batch file creator and It is now included in the install package.

Hope I didn't miss something   :-[ ::) :'
I'm sure someone will PM me if I did! rofl
Also Have a new version on the server which Improves the speed at which the FloorPlan screen loads.
It also now displays correct state of each device on start up (provided the CM15A hasn't been removed from the PC or PC was off)
Also when switching back to FloorPlan view after minimizing now brings up the last floor you were in.
I change the way some save buttons react and update the manual!

I will use this program.  It is very excellent for monitor all my X10 items (lights, heating, alarm on or off, mailbox, ...).  With TeemViewer, it is very simple to "see" my house when I am not at home.

I have application with Microsoft ACCESS to calculate the cost of heating, hot water, light, ....  I use the file Activity Monitor of Activehome Pro.  I will use the X10 Event log (file X10received).  This file is better than the file of Activehome pro.  No limit of data, always available and easy to use.

The PC Companion is a excellent program for me.

Thanks for the high praise! ;)
I never thought of using Companion with a internet connection like TeemViewer or one of the others that give full PC access! It certainly would give a fast status report of your house devices
even if only using a single floorplan!
In the next update (Hopefully Monday) I've added a new way for Companion to react to security device trips via a batch file.
As well as some other cool adds!
Stay tuned! rofl

I had hoped to get this out before the weekend but there was a lot of testing to do!
I worked the Floorplan viewer to fix some bugs, allow for some adds and hopefully some cool new future ones ::) :'

3.0.2.4
Added features:

Some users still experience Batch files not closing properly! I've found if the CPU is maxed out it will cause this, also multiple batch file triggers will cause this (CPU overload)!
I've added another force close when Text to Speech is finished as a slow down seemed to make the program miss the first close command ::) :'
Since adding this I haven't been able to cause a batch file not to close however, once your CPU is close to maxing out the Batch files tend to take a long time to initiate!
The weather display screen displays a pic of current conditions as well as text of current condition plus the current weather. Not all conditions have pic as yet but I'm working on it!
If you get a condition with a N/A Graphic take note of the condition and e-mail it to me so I can add it for the display!
Note  : I've added the ability for Companion to check for conditions every hour so you may have to reset that setting in your settup!

I'm getting excited! Latest test have proved I can get PC Companion to see Security device activity :)%
As of now getting it to show security trips on the FloorPlan that is active is easy!
Getting it to display correctly on an inactive display when made active is proving to be a hair puller :'(
I'm Not completely satisfied with the new way Companion is displaying the Modules :-[ Drag and dropping into locations can be a Pain. But at least once in location there is no need to move them  rofl
Hopefully I'll have a new update with the Security module Status option available soon!
Oh in case you're wondering I'm not using any additional x10 sends to do this! ;)
It does involve macros with AHP and the windows command option so you may want to get that work around for the AHP Windows Command Bug (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=15010.msg83769#msg83769) installed!

****Update: New PC Companion Version****
Well I had to re code the FloorPlan  section of PC Companion.
Initial load wouldn't pick up all the newly added graphics :'(
This how ever allowed for some functions that would otherwise be unavailable!  :)%

I had to find a way for PC Companion to find devices added from previous builds this was easy, finding the graphics for each device was a little difficult!
About 80% of the time it finds the previous graphic assigned to the device! :-[ :'(  I had to enable users to change it to the correct one or one of the  newer ones I've included in the release.
Thus reentering the device  info, selecting the proper graphic, and pressing the Add button will  ask you if you wish to change the graphic.
Version 3.027 has few visibly noticeable changes:

You may add other graphic sets to the FloorPlan folder as long as one ends with "On" the other "Off" and they have a "gif" extention. PC Companion will see these and add them to the list of selectable device pics.

Note:
In order to use the new "S" house code with security devices will require the new PC Companion SecurityInformer plug-in.
I Created the SecurityInformer Plug-in for PC Companion so only one instance of Companion needs to be running!
SecurityInformer is not only for creating security batch files but it gets the info to Companion for processing
Companion will not see security batchfiles you make  unless you have security informer installed
Unfortunately SecurityInformer is not free! Nore is it try before you by. :(
To those that donated to PC Companion you have till the end of the week to submit files I requested for a free Copy of SecurityInformer! ;)

I use to use just the main FloorPlan for viewing my modules but since adding the SecurityInformer Plug-in I found my Floor plan was getting cluttered!
I've since started to use all 3 floors to get a less cluttered look this allows for bigger room displays and allows one to use bigger graphics for devices.
I've spent much time creating graphics for different devices and since the program now lets you specify which ones to use for each device the possibilities have become endless.

Some of you have put forth some good Ideas.
I had thought more of you would be sending me some samples via e-mail but I've only received 2 so far of which I had to convert to Gifs!
Here is a list of what is included so far:
Some of you may be working on or have other versions of those listed. :)%  Please share them with the rest of us!
Take a look at what your controlling with X10 then see if you can find or create ON & OFF gif pics for that!
E-mail them to me and I'll add them in the next release.
Thanks everyone for add ideas don't stop them coming! ;)
Note: If you don't see all of the listed graphics in the FloorPlan folder of PC Companion then you don't have the latest version ;)

...  I had thought more of you would be sending me some samples via e-mail but I've only received 2 so far....

What size image(s) would you like?
Keeping them similar in size to those already in the program would be best for distribution but PC Companion will auto size and I can resize for ditribution.
The thing to keep in mind is these are usually displayed small so test them out in your copy of companion to see how they look!
Since you can change the display size of the graphics in the floorplan options test at a small size and at the larger size.
The main problem is getting enough of a difference in the ON from the OFF to distinguish them!
Some things to keep in mind for testing:

***New version released***

I hesitated releasing this as I wanted to add Sensor triggering Video capture!
For some reason program won't see RF until video capture is stopped so that had to be done manually (not Good)!
I'll continue to work on this and it may appear as an add later!
In any case this is mostly a Camera enhancement release with a few bug fixes introduced with the code for the SecurityInformer add:

It is vista ultimate x64 EN version. Installing is fine, just starting up produces this error.
Maybe 64 bit issues? I also set it to xp compitabilty mode.... Still no go.

That most likely is it! ::)
I've installed and ran it on vista 32bit basic and Windows 7 32 bit without any issues!
I hadn't installed the newest version on windows 7 prior to your post but have now without any problems!
A lot of users test running the thirdparty software creations with vista 64 bit have reported issues but your the first that has stated they can't even get PC Companion to start! Did you download and save to your hard drive before you installed? You may have a corrupt install!
Try a fresh download and don't install from the net. My gut feeling is you'll always have some issues with 32bit programs running on a 64 bit OS! :(

****New Release ver 3.0.3.9****

UX17A has only the IR Commander features in it. UX21A and UX23A are VCR Commander & VCR Commander II, respectively. They have the features used by IR Commander, but are mainly used to start and stop recording on a VCR (or DVDR or DVR) based on input from X10 motion sensors.
A special thanks to Billy and Charles Sullivan for initially getting me started on this
(many Moons ago)!  :)%  >!
And To Dave_x10_L for helping me realize, I didn't need the emitters stuck to my TV,VCR,DVD player if I used a PowerMid set (http://www.x10.com/products/x10_pm5900.htm). ::) :' Otherwise this may still be on the back burner!
This release allows one to interface with the VCR Commander and Unlock it's hidden features turning it into a IR Commander Via a Commander Plug-in. Although not all features are coded yet the most popular ones are.

Version 3.0.3.9:
Added option to turn on/off paramaters notification for weather triggers
 Added UX17 & UX23 initialization/setup screen for IR control
Added ability to send multiple IR commands on a single X10 received signal via VCR/IR commanders
Added link to plug-in pack (includes Commander) located in floorplan help page
Added quick link to special triggers page in options(weather, phone and VCR Commander triggers)
Added quick link to VCR Commander setup (although the plug-in is needed for everything other then initializing)
Added option to Backup Settings (XML)files
Added option to restore old backed up settings (XML files)

Just when I think I have something new to try someone beats me to it! rofl
I was planing to give RealVNC (http://www.realvnc.com/products/download.html) a test run with PCC in hopes that it would save me a lot of finger wear  rofl!
trol1374 beat me to it and went one step farther with his PDA using it! #:)
However not using the VA11A and a Non Windows friendly Video card he was unable to test the video display!  :(
I should note here: "RealVNC doesn't need the internet for home network connection."
I can report that it does indeed work with PC Companions cam display although there is a bit of a lag with the free version. :)%
I fired off a couple of emails to RealVNC Sales  asking about sound (free version doesn't have it) and video display!
I was informed that they are working on adding sound and video really depended on network conditions.
I asked about a discount for users of PCC and I'm still waiting for a responce so hold off on getting the personal addition just yet!
In anycase the personal version is only $30.
Also a workaround would be to use X10dispatcher in the mix as it will send sound triggers over the network!

No!
I've only tried the trial (free Version) on my home network.
I'm waiting on some info (clarification) before I purchase the Personal edition!
But the initial reply makes it sound like the video would be about the same on the Personal edition.
Feel free to ask any questions regarding the personal edition from the realvnc web site!
They are fairly quick at responding (Make sure to mention your intending to use it with PC Companion)!

*** Update version 3.0.4.2 Now Available ***

I was looking at a way to have PCC available on a working network RealVNC seems to be the easyest way thus far!
If you down load and install the free version PCC will Intergrate with it (see adds)

Remote Video Capture is now supported however the way the program saves the video Stops PCC from responding while program saves from memory (the longer the file duration the longer PCC stops responding) Not the greatest but it works!
Here's the Adds:
Added so you must specify house code for commander sends (saves info from the commander setup)
Added Commander TTS notification that it is sending Commander signals
Added video capture start and stop on x10 code (Warning PCC locks while writing the file)
Added option to start RealVNC service on start up and service stop on exit
Added option to start stop Realvnc from floorplan Pages with new button which displays when key button is visible
Added option to change the Text To Speech output sound device
Fixed error pop up when trying to view VCR Setup screen
Fixed so Video viewer only opens on video files
Added catch to inform users they need plug-in pack to setup commanders
Updated manual

The download link is still the same PCC setup file (http://www.angelfire.com/in2/ontkoi/X10AHP/PcCompanion.html)

Tuicemen,
I just installed the latest version and got it to work with my VA11A, however there's no colour with my colour camera.
And it still won't work at all with my non-x10 usb capture device. It keeps switching the source to S-Video after I have selected TV Tuner, and I can't get any picture. *SIGH*.
But other than that, seems like a really neat program!

I'm not sure why your camera isn't displaying color unless your TV tuner card is interfering with the windows capture driver which PCC uses at the moment!
Does your cam display correctly with the VA11A in AHP?

I have tried some other USB capture devices and the windows driver seems to throw them to their default presets as well each time I switch a cam!  B:( ::) :'
I'm currently looking into a couple of other methods for video display and capture as I'm not pleased my self with the windows driver.
I wish there was a standard these devices would keep to, B:( I see now why x10 and so many others choose to only support their own hardware capture device!

Tuicemen,
I just re-installed iWitness plugin and now I am getting colour with PCC! And the really great thing too is now I can use BOTH iWitness and my usb tv tuner at the same time--they both work together!

The one drawback however, is now my CR12A (camera remote) will not transmit RF---I have to change cameras manually using AHP software. Not sure why this is happening. ???

Good to hear it must have been a corrupt VA11A driver!

Is your CR12A not transmitting any RF or just not the correct codes or only some buttons not responding?

Often when playing around with my remote I slide switches or move dials and forget to place them back to their original position. rofl
Some times I realize right away other times it takes me awhile  B:(
If dials and switches are in correct position, has fresh batteries and still fails then it is probably dead :(

Tuicemen,
I hear you....however it wasn't that! Unplugging the TM751 and plugging it back in again seems to have fixed the problem.

Now I have to figure out why my UR73A keeps going haywire. Sometimes when I'm scrolling through TV channels, or should I say when I'm trying to scroll thru TV channels, the UR73A will not stop scrolling thru the channels! Like I just pressed the up button once and the thing starts scrolling thru all the channels non-stop really fast! So I change the batteries and reprogram it and everything but it still won't stop scrolling thru the channels. Then a couple days later, it will start working just fine again, and I can never figure out what happened!

You might try replacing the TM751 with a RR501 transceiver.  The RR501 is more "polite" while the TM751 will step on signals.  I will bet the problem with the UR73A will always work properly with a RR501.

I'm a little confused! ::)
Are you using the UR73A with PC Companion and controlling your TV card?
Or are you using the UR73A to control functions on your TV directly?

If you are controlling PC related programs It may be code but it isn't the TM751 since it relays the commands via PLC and there is no PLC code for Channel Up or Down! ;)
My bet is it is most likely sticky channel keys (maybe pop spilt on the remote)
You may need to dismantel the remote and give it a good cleaning! ;)

Tuicemen,

I'm using the UR73A to control functions on my TV (not my PC) and as a remote for x10 stuff like cameras, etc. The TV signal from my main TV is trasmitted to a second TV via the VR46A, and this 2nd TV is in turn is connected to my PC's usb tv tuner box by a coaxial cable.

I've wondered if this has something to do with those IR tabs that come with the VR46A that you stick on the IR remote transmission area on the TV, VCR, and satellite receiver (?).

Yes, the RR501 sounds alot better, but unfortunately the Canadian dollar ain't doin' so great right now  ;)

I am trying to understand how to write a Batch file for a wake up call.

I would like to have the PCC do some TTs like "good morning"  then the time, weather, reminders

Would i write the batch file like this.
[
@ echo off
cd..

PcCompanion "Good Morning" 0
PcCompanion ">Time?<" 0
PcCompanion ">Weather?<" 0
PcCompanion ">Reminder?<" 0
]

Also is there coding for PCC to open a website?  IF i could add a way to open pandora.com i could follow that string with music and be perfect for what i was doing!

Update:  I think i found in PCC where to launch a website.  Just need to figure out the syntex for the batch file or set up a second trigger.   Interesting side note, i'm gettting some interesting errors of late.  INvolving problems with .net framework and PCC has been having errors but appears to be able to work thru them so far.  Next time i'll take note of what it sais for what its worth

When opening and closing the remote event config,  it gives me a Unhandled exception has occured.

As the weather gets nicer I spend more time away with no internet access(hopefully that will be solved soon)
So If It appears I'm ignoring a question it may be I haven't received it yet! ::) :'
I've never tried stringing multiple commands in a single batch file!
The problem is it tries to open more then one instance of the program at one time!
The trick would be open one batch file for each task with the appropriate delay between each one.
I can't seem to recreate the issue with the Remote Event configuration window but I'll look into it. It maybe a issue with the trial version.

No worries,  I figured you were not ignoring me. The .net framework on my machine must have gotten damaged at some point playing with all these files and reboots.   Reinstalling .net framework from the link on you're site took care of the crashing from what i can tell.

So separate batch files or .exe's as it may be.

Just had a sucessfull full test run!  Minus the lights,   The software works GREAT!!! I didn't even need a delay between elements besides the weather portion and opening pandora radio.  Pandora would open far before my weather finished so a 32 second delay was necessary there.   Unfortunatly while it is reading the weather there is a bit of resource fighting and the voice skipps a bit while IE opens.

Small update:

Mostly bug fixes with some new weather graphics
Current weather conditions & graphics now display in the Weather triggers option
(Possibly leading to the option of triggering events on weather conditions in the future)  ;)

I now have VB express 2008 installed on my Notebook with the current build of PCC.
I can now work on this from the cottage during the evenings!
I don't have internet access from the cottage but since the notebook has WIFI I can access the internet from else where to retrieve PMs and email and possibly upload a new build.
Bluetooth detection seems to work better with my notebook as well so I'll look into adding some options to utilizing that !
I've noticed some errors with running PCC from the notebook and I've worked out  most so this should also fix errors which are generated when running from a PDA.
Please don't stop the suggestions or error reports as I do enjoy trouble shooting! rofl
Although I don't have Vista or a 64 bit OS in my arsenal yet others do have it running on them so posting your issues may result in someone else helping you out! ;)

Hi guys, love the possibilities of this piece of software.  I don't have an error report per say, just my own problem that I'm sure is my fault somehow as I may be missing something.  I've got Vista Prem that seems to run PCC just fine with no program errors, however I've tried 3 zip codes where I live plus one from the next state over and PCC gives me, "You have entered an incorrect City Code" when I select Read Info under weather tab.

I've saved my changes and I'm also trying to click the Weather toggle but absolutely nothing happens there.  My guess is becuase it, again, can't read weather for my zip's entered so just sits there.  Am I missing something in setting the weather for PCC?

I have the same problem.  I have internet access through a d-link router.  I'm wondering if I have to have a special setting on my router for it?  Tuicemen had told me once that that error was normally because of internet access.

I'm also having a couple of issues with Pc Companion.   Do love the possibilities with the weather info from the internet triggering a device.  It will speak the weather if I click on the weather button, but I can't get it to speak the weather with my remote.  Also can't get it to turn on a device after retrieving the weather from the internet. I did notice the X10 command is not showing up underneath the operator.  Also I can't get it to show the X10 log.  For some reason it keeps saying it will create one on the first command received.  I'm running XP Pro service pack 3 with 1.5 GB of RAM, AHP ver 3.236, CM15A. Just wondering what configurations other users are running and if they are having any other problems or am I doing something wrong.   By the way the floorplan is great!

Thanks,

It may be 3.236, that is a known buggy release. Go to http://software.x10.com/pub/applications/activehome/ and look for ahp_updt_204.exe
Install that over what you have now (it will not affect ANY plug-ins).  Open AHP and use the upgrade link to upgrade to 3.228, the last good version.

I'm digging into the weather section/option of this today.
I installed PCC on my notebook to see if installing on a stripped down system would make some issue appear for me!
It has brought some issues to light even some never reported. ::) :'

Dan Lawrence You may be on to something there.
since PCC uses which ever version of ahscript and x10nets AHP has loaded.
Some users have little or no issues with AHP 3.236 while others have major issues.
I'm running 3.236 myself in hopes to weed out strange occurrences.

delta504 & Hawk1 try running PCC on a PC connected directly to the net(no router) that will tell you for sure if it is a router setting that needs to be set.
I myself never had to set anything different on mine for PCC but did for AHP and MyHouse.
In your router setup look in the advanced settings and under port forwarding or filters enable pas threw filters if that option is there.

systemdm
users that have issues with PCC not reporting X10 activity or logging usually are using a Transceiver other then the CM15A
If I remember Hawk1 had this issue and resolved it.
If in AHP you have the option set to not transceive house codes I think you have to set it so it will then update the interface!
Hawk1 maybe able to chime in with the steps we took to fix his I know we spent many hours sorting it out!

In any case today is debug day  >*< keep your fingers crossed gang!

Tuicemen and everybody else.  I have the v572 receiver so I had my cm15 not to transmit.  I had to change this.  First I configured the v572 to not use the codes that I was using for PCC.  Then I went into AHP and told the cm15 to transmit just those codes.

This fixed the problem with the VCR commander plug-in I was having and the activity log.

I did try to hook to the internet directly and still gave me wrong zip code error.  I'm kind of wondering if it has something do with antivirus software, but I'm not sure.  Haven't had much time to look into this.  Right now I'm battling a bout with some tick fever and can't think very clearly.  Sorry.  If I think of anything else the Tuicemen and I went through I will keep it posted.

hawk1 You could be right about your antivirus. Since PCC has to access the internet for weather info firewalls and or antivirus programs must allow it to do so.  ;)
Hope your feeling better soon!

I've stumbled onto a bug in the weather report triggered by an X10 command it will require one to resave their settings once I have the update posted,
For now you can edit your "Mysettings.xml" file found in the PCC root folder. On the line that starts <X10code> make sure the correct X10 trigger is displaying if not change it!
Seems multiple saves to the configuration was adding the power setting ON/OFF multiple times ::) :'

I still get the city code enterd isn't compatible. Check for correct spelling error when I hit the weather button.
I also get a error about the start index can not be 0 when I am in the program settings and hit the fetch weather button.  hope this helps.

Well mine is 3.0.4.6 on Vista Prem 32bit.  I have not changed versions nor edited router config.  It just started working the following day.  I would say that antivirus/antispyware sotware would be culprit #1, but the intermit of it is mind boggling.

I'm using Avast Free Personal, however it did take an update yesterday and I did not check afterward.

I've tried to uninstall, reinstall, different versions, still no dice.  The xp home pc is my home automation pc where I need PCC installed.  Just information for you.

Since Pro and Home are the same OS just extra options I'd look at the services & programs running on both.
use Msconfig to shut down any services runing on Home that aren't on Pro.
Then look at the settings of the firewall on each as well as other internet security programs(antivirus, antispyware...) running
 ;)

This is mostly a bug fix release with a few adds.

Since I had a power blip while adding these fixes I'm not sure if all of these were noticeable or if they were the result of Murphy getting in with the power disruption! :-[

I don't know whats going on.  But mine doesn't work with the new update  either.   B:(  Router settings should be fine because the other computer is on the same router and it works.  Looked in services but really couldn't find anything in there that made a difference.

Tried without any antivirus.   B:(  Will try to figure this out.

I don't know whether or not this has anything to do with it but....  when ever I click detailed forcast and try to fetch it gives the error "city code isn't compatible" but when I click on two day forecast and try to fetch it gives the error " can't connect to the internet".

but I can access the internet through a browser just fine.  Is it somehow trying to access a dial up modem?

Post by: Tuicemen on June 25, 2009, 02:28:16 PM
Fetch uses a different site for detailed info then the two day forcast info!
When I was adding error catches I tested with incorrect city codes.
In the next release I'll change the message box to reflect that it is a connection problem!

It isn't trying to access threw dial-up unless you have Windows configured to do that!
Since you can connect with one XP machine but not the other the issue is the PCs configuration.
Is Windows firewall running on that one and not the other?
If it is running on both make sure the settings are the same.

You'll need to do some digging to find the differences on each PC.
Use the task manager to compare what is running on each machine.
Use Msconfig to shut down services and programs that run on start up.
Check to make sure any identical programs that are running have the same settings configured

If anybody uses the vcr commander successfully can you please send me your xml files?  I need to see why PCC isn't saving my codes.  It's wierd but the commander controller works fine but when I use my remote it won't send the codes to the vcr commander.  thanks

I know this is lazy for asking, but how do I program a button on the ICON-RF to trigger PCC to read my inbox?

Please move this post to the appropriate location as I had a hard time deciding where to put it.

Sorry for slow reply Guys!
Knightrider
I don't believe I have read email added as an option yet for remote operation :-[  ::) :'
Can't believe I missed that one! :-[
setting up keys on the Icon is easy:
First configure your CM15A in the Icon remote
Next click on mode then x10 and find the CM15A
This will bring up the options for it on the screen
In the program tell it the address of the CM15A
Now go in to the remote configuration of PCC and choose the key to respond to and what to respond with!
Open file may work for email reads with some tinkering and a script file!

hawk1
I'll look in to this. My programing PC got Zapped while at the cottage so it will take time for me to get everything back up and running.

PCC saves the remote settings for the VCR commander in the mysettings.XML file under ComMacros and should look like this!
 <ComMacros>
  <string>A10 ON,TV POWER</string>
 </ComMacros>
If the info is not there let me know!
You must set up in the Event Triggers screen in VCR/IR Commander Triggers and once save they should display under the Configured Events drop down

*****UPDATE*****

Okay, after several days, no weeks I have PCC getting the weather!!!!  :)%

It seems that internet connection sharing was enabled for some reason.  So I totally uninstalled that in add/remove windows programs.  And I reinstalled my network and now is all good!!!!!   (I don't have any hair left so, if your calling from the hair club for men forget it!!!!!)     rofl

Next on the agenda is to get the vcr plugin to work, haven't messed with that in a while.  Stay Tuned!   >!

Nice to hear you figured out the connection issue hawk1, even nicer that you shared this info with us.
I'm sure it will help others!
PCC Update:
Now that the colder weather is coming I'm sure I'll be busy coding! ;)
My goal is to make PCC info accessable from BVC I think for most part that can be done with txt or wav files.
I've installed windows 7 32 bit on a machine so I'll test on that OS as well as XP that may take a little longer to debug but hopfully not much.
Since I've retired my programming time has been limited to winter months (just limited resources at the summer home).
Thanks to everyones donations,I've ordered a PC connectable weather station. So I hope to intergrate information from it (using Virtual Weather Station (http://www.ambientweather.com/do30tr.html)) with PCC.
Got some other PC connectible hardware you want to interface with? Let me know and I'll look into it ;)

- New Release Ver 3.0.4.8 -

Finally many of you are saying!  rofl

Still waiting on my home weather station so maybe support will follow in next release! ::) :'
I keep trying to make this intergrate more with BVC. So I'm interested in how others have done it and suggestion to improve on that.

The new features are:
Added music ON/OFF Pics for floorplan
Added file start from remote (RF receive)trigger
Added option to speak email using remote
Added option to open other web browsers via the open file format using full path of exe
Added weather forcast, saved as forcast.txt in data folder(updates on weather button Press or remote trigger)
Added temperature, saved to temperature.txt in data folder (updates at interval you specify)
Added daily reminder, saved to Reminder.txt in data folder
Added option to show weather display or not
Added temperature info in Celsius if a Canadian city is chosen (temperature is still Fahrenheit for forcasts)
Added Fog pic for weather condition display
Updated manual to reflect changes

Hopefully the new text files created can be used with other programs like BVC!
Note: link to download is still the same
PCC (http://www.tuicemen.com/downloads/PC_Companion_Setup.exe) in case the auto updater in program fails to catch the new file.

***Just Released version 3.0.5.1***

I've been busy with some other programs but finally got a new update for PCC posted on the server. ::) :'

Not a real big update unless your a BVC fan, which is just about everyone! rofl
3.0.5.1
Added features:
Added Reminder.txt to wave file conversion does this automatically, places file in sounds folder
Added Temperature.txt to wave file conversion does this automatic on each temperature update cycle, places file in sounds folder
Added Callid.txt to wave file conversion does this automatic on each caller id received, places file in sounds folder
Added Button to open weather station Plug-in once released
Opens a sample of the weather Plug-in showing CSV file retrieval for now
Added option to start any of the Plug-ins or programs installed in the PC Companion folder
Added link to my software page for Plug-ins and Add-Ons
Added PC lockout, clicking security lock logs out of windows as well as locking the floorplan view
thus giving your HA PC more tamper protection if your windows account is password protected
Disabled the option pop up screen from system tray icon if security lock out in effect.
Fixed sound triggers from not playing if weather option configured
Fixed link to RealVNC
Fixed some display issues for main window

As many are finding this program is getting a little complicated to setup even with the manual which I failed to update this time around.  B:( :-[
In future builds I'll start to stream line the program and make it easier to setup. One possibility is to have a beginner and advanced mode.
I look forward to hearing anyone elses suggestion for improvement! ;)
I have 2 more plug-ins in the works right now the weather station CSV file reader which will enable 8 additional weather triggers and not just temperature based. ;)
And a Text to Wave program does just that turns text files into wave files.
In case anyone can't figure out the benefits to BVC in this build then A hint is: the file conversions!  rofl
Thank to everyone for their support !

As they are all included in the PCC  plug-in pack anyone that has this pack can download the new version by clicking on the Update Button in the CommanderControler (mouse remote).
Or they can use the original link sent to them via e-mail.
For those that don't have the plug-in pack there is a donation link (specific for the plug-in pack)  in  the latest version of PC Companion.  ;)

Update:
Seems where PC Companion was getting it's weather information for temperature triggers had a format change! ::) :'
This caused everyones temperature triggers to fail!  :-[
I know many of you use the temperature triggers so as soon as it was drawn to my attention I started working on a fix.
I've just posted a Update
Version 3.0.5.2
Fixed temperature triggers and display
All the information that was available before isn't there yet but the main info (temperature) is. ;)
I'll have to dig a little more to see if I can retrieve more weather info from the temperature site.
Hopefully I can add some more info or at least retrieve the conditions we could before. ::) :'
Fixed Vista Display issue.
I had started on the Vista display issue and I believe I have that one resolved as well. ;)
I may have missed a screen so if anyone with vista has an issue with a particular screen let me know. ;)

Since adding the option for PCC to utilize a third party software for gathering weather info I've been playing more with that option.
I thought I'd play with a little program WeatherWatcherLive (http://www.singerscreations.com/) that  jjsalobird suggested.
While working on debugging that option I realized  -:) I can make this program create a CSV file which the PCC Plug-in X10WeatherWatch can use.
Hey no need for an expensive weather station now PCC can trigger x10 events from the internet weather gathered from WeatherWatcher Live.
No need to worry about how, you can use the programs defalt data log and just save it as a CVS file anywhere you like then point X10WeatherWatch to it. ;)
Since WeatherWatcher Live can save 2 different files you can utilize the temperature triggers already with PCC and use the Plug-in for additional weather triggers like rain, wind, humidity and more!
So for those looking for more weather triggering possibilities this little program is worth looking at! ;)

Note: There is a new PCC version posted  that addresses some temperature triggering issues from a thirdparty program.

Yes, I'm still alive  rofl
Some of you are thinking of switching to 64 bit or may already done so.
Doing so will stop PCC from loading. :'(
I spent most of yesterday installing Win 7 64 bit as every thing works fine with 32 bit.
today I've been debugging and seem to have found the issue!
It seems to be a tool used to allow tapi to work (resolved telephony issues)
I've disabled this function for a 64 bit build until this tool is updated for 64 bit or I find another way to resolve the issues.
I should have a 64bit build shortly. (baring any other hurtles)

The next issue some have found is updating to AHP 3.296 stops PCC from finding x10nets (sending/recieving x10 info). :'( This seems to be an issue with the SDK
I'm not sure if reverting to an older build of AHP will help as it hasn't on my 64 bit machine. :'(

Nice to see you!

From what I seen in sale ads... 64 bit is the way things are going.

Thanks Dave,
Seems everyone I know using the 64 bit version of windows 7 like it better then 32 bit.
Thought I don't why yet. Lots of hardware and software won't work on it. though I think the main issue is drivers.
I've been able to Update a dll which was causing an issue in 64 bit (tapi related) so it looks like I won't need to cripple the software in order to use it on a 64 bit system.
Once I get the main program running ( debugged ) I'll examine all the plug-ins as I'm sure at least one of them I failed to build for 64 bit. ::) :'

Thanks Dave,

The newest up date for PcCompanion is now on the server.
If you have 3.066 installed the download link in the options screen will get you the newest version.
Also it will get you the latest Plug-in pack if you have a previous version installed in the PcCompanion root folder.
PcCompanion will auto install the plug-in pack installer will get placed in the PcCompanion Backups folder. From there you can install the plug-in update.
PcCompanion version 3.06.7 has only a few enhancements
Added minor labling
Removed some redundant code
Added a Pitch adjustment to voice settings

The Pitch adjustment really adds a nice touch for your voices even if you only have the default ones from Microsoft.
So now besides rate/speed up or down and volume, you can also raise or lower the tone/pitch of the voice .
Using both of these settings I was able to change my Paul voice to sound much like that of Jack Nicholson.
And now the female voice can be made to sound much more friendlier.

The Plug-in pack basicaly fixed the update links and adds the Nicole face set.

Can PCC read out phone numbers from caller id from soft phones like Magic Jack. That would be great. Incoming call from (caller id) or (Dad) instead of a ringer. I might be asking to much but it never hurts to ask.  :' Still playing with the test version till I get my new automation computer up. (smoke a motherboard)  :'(

To be honest I don't know!
The drivers PCC uses for tapi are capable of handling VOIP but since I don't have a majic jack I can't debug for it.
All I can Say is try it!
Let me know if it works or not. If it doesn't I'll look into it, but you may have to be my beta tester for it! ;)

Adds:
Background option to display in Animated face screan, plays even if animated face is showing.
Matrix slide show slectable from the options screen
link to PCC Support section in the Tuicemen software forum.

When I added the Slide show option I set the timer so the matrix show looked right.
Thinking about it now, this may not work for some slide shows so I'll add a option to regulate the time interval between slides in the next release.

If it doesn't work with AlertDialer it won't work with PCC as it uses the same set of drivers.
I'll do some digging and see if there is away to connect without having to upgrade the driver licence.

I've been updating new releases on the server over the last few days with some minor improvements.
The latest improvement adds the ability to create batch files that trigger events not just sounds.
With my recent discovery of WSR Macros (http://tuicemen.com/forum/index.php?topic=50.0) I've discovered PCC could do many things I'd only dreamed of doing! And I could have been doing them years ago! B:( PCC already had the ability! ::) :'

Okay, X10 finally with the release of version 3.304 will allow commandline paramiters!
This removes the need to use Batch files and the annoying CMD pop up screen.
Yes PCC can make use of this! :)%
It may infact work better (time will tell) ::) :'
Want more info?
PCC commandline options. (http://tuicemen.com/forum/index.php?topic=56.msg134#msg134)
It may also free up some X10 commands users are using as dummy modules to trigger BVC to speak a phrase.

Well, the two developers I've been working with for the past few months, Erik and Kevin, seem to be good at what they do, and willing to work with us to fix problems, and add in some things that AHP has been lacking.

Let's hope X10 treats them well, so they stay around for a while.

Post by: Tuicemen on February 04, 2011, 05:17:31 PM
As some of you know I've been playing with WSR Macros for Vista and Win7.
I had always tried to make PCC compatible with BVC so I had added many hidden voice features to PCC.
Some even I had forgotten about. ::) :'
I mentioned running command line paramiters with WSR Macros.
But did you know, you can start PCC via a MSR Macro and once it is open that any of the button presses can be performed via voice?
BVC can't do it but Windows VR can!
You can open the floor plan view by saying "FloorPlan"
You can even close PCC via Voice!
I guess now I have to go threw and remind myself what all I can do with voice in PCC! rofl

I guess I should have been searching the Web earlier for this instead of waiting for BVC to get the options.
e-speaking (http://e-speaking.com/) will do every thing you've been waiting for BVC to get.
It allows XP PCs to execute windows commands.
It can be made to work like the WSR Macros, maybe even better!
I played with it for 5 mins and had it doing simple things with PCC. ;)
Imagine what you could do with a 30 day trial.

thanks.
I just tested it on Win7 and it's not as powerful as on XP, it doesn't work well with Win7 VR.
It does look like it could give BVC a run for it's money as it can trigger X10 commands from what I've read.
It states you can use a cm17a but from the commands it looks like it uses the SDK.
Even comes with 6 avatars simular to the Face sets PCC and BVC use, only it supports more viceme (lipsync) pics.
I may try converting a faceset to use with it!

Since I'm using Windows 7 more now I'll continue working with WSR Macros. ::) :'
The one thing I wasn't keen on with the WSR Macros was no confirmation the command was heard unless you were in front of the monitor. :(

Don't get disappointed!
I've found a way to add a confirmation voice phrase which speaks a line of text while the Macro is executing. :)%
This gives the impression of a faster execution and you know for sure that the computer heard the command.
I'll most likely start a thread  for WSR Macros @ my Forum (http://tuicemen.com/forum/index.php?board=36.0) for those interested in custom WSR Macros! ;)

PCC is in the final testing of the new single instance build and should be ready by weeks end.
There are many improvements coming as coding for this release brought some unreported issues to light.
The best (I feel) is PCC will still see windows commands sent to it if it is running.
No need to run a dual instance special for batchfiles to fire.
You'll now be able to make your own command line triggers.
This expands on the hard coded commands.
PCC will be even more voice friendly as well, if that is even possible. rofl

Title: Using PC companion as an intercom
Post by: Glorfindel on August 31, 2011, 12:03:39 AM
I've been interested in getting an intercom set up in my house. However the reviews I read of the ones that used to powerlines didn't seem to good. I also can't rip holes in the wall to install a hard-wired intercom. So I thought I remember reading that PC companion to use your network for an intercom. So I assume you would have to have a computer in every room? Even if that is the case it would still be eaiser than running the wires through the walls and probably better quality than using the powlines. So I have some old computers I would like to use to start testing this out. However I have no clue where to begin and came here to hopefully get some answers. Thanks in advance for any help. :)
Title: Re: Using PC companion as an intercom

Pc Companion does have  a intercome of sorts buit in.
Realy it's a Chat program which connects to all PCs on your home network.
Since PCC doesn't do voice on its own you need to type in a message.
This message is spoken on all PCs on the network using the voice configured for the PCC which is on the recieving end.
You need to configure the x10relayer network server included.
The Pcc manual  (http://www.tuicemen.com/downloads/companionmanual.zip) explains the settings
All PCs you wish to talk to need to have the same security key to communicate back and forth.
Hope this is what your looking for.

When PCC was first released I tried to make it compatible with most SDK written software.
The ability to use command line arguments expanded the programs that it could interact with.
With the release of newer OS software voice recognition has been a problem for many wishing this option.
I still have no plans to add this option to PCC (not because I can't) as there are other programs that do this well.
BVC works well on OS prior to Vista, iHouse works well on all (including vista & Win7).
Many enjoy both as each has options the other doesn't problem is the newer OS
Why not with PCC acting as the middle man use both?
Maybe PCC can even share some of the work load! ;)

I am having sadness trying to get BVC working with my rig, perhaps because I am on the newer version of AHP with a CM19A. My question is, is PCC likely to work with AHP 3.318 and a CM19A?

Also, is this whole shebang likely to work under Windows 7? Currently my server's on XP, but I am willing to reload if I can use Windows 7 built in voice response along with AHP/PCC.

Thanks,
Ben

Stick with XP! For now at least... BVC doesn't play as well with the newer versions of windows... XP works best. I tested BVC/AHP with the CM19A once.. so I know the CM19A works OK. However... you may find the default setting in BOTH AHP and BVC to be PLC (PowerLine Command). So check to be sure that BVC is sending RF... and well as any macro or AHP actions as well.

Thanks Dave, I appreciate it. I have to be doing something dumb. Neither BVC or PCC are working for me, on two different computers - I tried everything on a Windows 7 machine with the same result as on my XP machine (nada).

In the AHP activity monitor, I see "Transmit RF B1 On". I have BVC set to listen for "B1 On" on both Powerline and RF but it does not respond. In PCC, the X10 log always tells me it does not exist because it is empty.

I would chalk it up to a bad CM19A, but it is able to successfully send arm/disarm commands to my Protector Plus. I don't have any other modules besides security sensors yet - was trying to do "proof of concept" before committing too much cash.

I've installed the AHP SDK and tried different AHP versions. In PCC, I did enable the X10 driver. Currently I'm on AHP 3.318 since the older one didn't seem to recognize the CM19A.

I would be willing to shell out for a CM15A if I thought it would solve my problems but it sounds like things should be able to work with a CM19A. Anything else I can try? I'm starting to run out of ideas.

Thanks,
Ben

I will assume (like that is ever a good idea) that you have some sort of module set to B1 and that you also have a TM751 set to "B". So is the module turning On and Off?

Unfortunately, no - I don't have much to help me test. The starter pack I bought was security focused, so I have:

AHP/OnAlert/OnAlert Mobile
CM19A Interface
DS10A Door/Window Sensors
KR10A Security Keychain Remote
MS10A Security Motion Detector
PS561 Protector Plus Voice Dialer Console

What I can say is that I can send arm/disarm commands from AHP, out the CM19A, to be received successfully by the PS561. Unfortunately I don't have any actual "automation" modules yet - I'm planning to branch into that if and when I can get the security part to work, since that's the main goal for me.

Aside from making testing harder, is this going to cause me any functional issues with BVC or PCC? I'm a little fuzzy on how they communicate with AHP...I mean, so AHP makes the CM19A transmit "B1 ON" on RF...the CM19A doesn't also receive what it's sending (or does it?)...so how does BVC or PCC receive a "B1 ON"?

I appreciate your help Dave...I realize it's probably about hunting season for Tuicemen so we might not hear from him for a couple weeks :)

The CM19A is an RF only sender and receiver.
It needs a RF to Power Line transceiver. Many times X10 sends a TM751. The PS561 can also take the RF X10 commands and put them on the power line. So getting X10 commands on the power line should be covered.

The problem is the CM19A has no power line receiver in it. So AHP can not receive any X10 commands sent on the power lines and there is no X10 device that resends a power line signal by RF back to a CM19A.

The now out of stock and maybe discontinued. CM15A AHP interface can do RF sending and receiving. Along with Power Line sending and receiving. Also has the ability to store programs in memory. To allow the computer to be turned off.

The lack of power line receiving maybe a problem. I am sure users of the program will give you more information.

Brian, this is very interesting. So if I am understanding correctly - for BVC or PCC (or arbitrary 3rd party programs) to "hear" X10 commands from AHP, something must receive the signal sent by the CM19A and "bounce it back", which is not currently possible? Which is where a CM15A would come in, to receive "bounced" power line signals. I feel like I am missing something since Dave mentioned he was able to use BVC with a CM19A. I kind of assumed (hoped?) that this kind of communication was being done internally to the computer, leveraging the AHP SDK or some such.

I'll happily (well not happily, but I'll do it) shell out the $80 for a used CM15A if it will solve my problems, but I'm still not sure if it will or not.

Thanks,
Ben

I don't have any experience with the programs.
So if a power line receiver is needed I can not say.
You are correct. The CM19A has no way of seeing power line signals.

One thing I did forget. The CM19A can do all sixteen House Codes and sixteen Unit Codes but the transceivers can only do one House Code with its sixteen Unit Codes. So if you want to use more than one House Code. A separate transceiver is needed for each House Code or a WGL V572 all House Code Tranceiver is used.
The CM15A can do all 256 addresses {16 House Codes+16 Unit Codes}

I use BVC and PCC sucessfully with the cm19 and the cm15a it dies seem to be far more reliable with the cm15a.  If you are using the cm19 a you must also have a tranciever installed to see power line siginals.  What is it that you are trying to accomplish with bvc and pcc.  That would also depend if ti can be accomplished withut the cm15a

Thanks Kenrad. What I'm trying to accomplish right now is fairly basic - I want BVC or PCC to speak a phrase when it receives a specific X10 command. For a test I am using code "B1 ON". I have tried just having a dummy module in AHP that I turn on, as well as a macro that sends B1 ON commands (RF and powerline). So far, neither BVC or PCC respond.

The eventual goal is to have BVC or PCC say a phrase when a security sensor is triggered. For example, triggering the DS10A on my front door would result in the phrase "Front door open" being spoken. As I understand it, I will have to create an AHP macro that triggers on the door sensor and sends out an X10 command that BVC or PCC can respond to with the appropriate phrase. Am I misunderstanding anything here?

Thanks,
Ben

Ok with bvc setup a listener to respond to the b1 on command and then make sure to click the check box respond to x10 commands.  Next you go to the line speak custom phrase and enter you phrase there and finally save it .  If you are running the cm15a or the cm91a with the tranciever added that should work for you.  If it doesnt try posting on the BVC forums or on tuicemens forumn they are both great resources to get help.

Thanks Kenrad for the step by step. The only piece I am missing is I do not have a transceiver - only the CM19A. Would this prevent BVC from working with the scenario you described?

Your PS561 is transceiving all sixteen RF Unit Codes for the Security House Code set on the consloe, to the power line.
If you want to use an additional House Code. Then an added TM751 or RR501 would be needed for each additional House Code you want to use.
If you wanted to use many House Codes a WGL V572 can do all sixteen House Codes.

The CM19A will never be able to see power line X10 commands. As there is no way to get a power line commands back to a CM19A.

Thanks Brian, that's what I though - since the CM19A cannot receive power line commands anyway, having or not having a transceiver should not affect functionality of third party software like BVC and PCC.

I'm sorry that I seem to be going around in circles here, I'm just confused why I'm stuck while so many others are able to use BVC/PCC successfully.

No problem.
I go in circles myself at times.

If BVC or PCC need to see a power line trigger. I am not sure how a CM19A would work.

I am not so sure that it's that BVC or PCC needs a PLC. I am sure they can see/hear a RF. I think... the problem might be with the CM19A hearing/seeing its own RF signal. If one was to send... say, B1 On using a RF remote... I think if the CM19A would receive the signal then AHP/BVC/PCC would hear/see it, and react. But I would think... guess... that using the OnAlert software with the DS10A's should work.

Even if a TM751 was added to the mix to create PLC.... there is no way that the AHP/BVC/PCC software will be able to recognize it without a CM15A.

Perhaps it can't "talk" and "listen" at the same time? I guess that kind of makes sense. It might confuse itself if it was trying to send and receive at the same time.

Maybe now we are getting to the meat of it. The CM19A is definitely not receiving a "B1 ON" command, only sending it, at least as reported by the AHP activity log. I was assuming that this communication between AHP and BVC happened internally on the computer...but maybe not!

So...what is the recommended way for AHP to communicate with BVC? Other folks must have AHP macros that trigger BVC to say/do things...how do you accomplish this?

The CM19A will not receive an echoed back signal it sends. The CM15A doesn't either.
Do you have any X10 remotes or motion sensors you can set to B1 and test if a received B1 command can trigger BVC?

Sorry for the slow reply bfineman I was with out internet for a few weeks.
The current SDK which both BVC and PCC use will not see a RF command sent.
However all isn't lost since PCC can be triggered via a windows command you can set AHP to run a macro witch sends the RF signal and triggers PCC to do what you wish.
As for PCC or BVC reacting to a recieved RF signal you need to be sure they are told to listen for it.

Welcome back Tulcemen! I knew it was hunting season so I wasn't expecting to hear from you.  :) You said that "the current SDK which both BVC and PCC use will not see a RF command sent." Help me understand what this means...so if I have AHP send "B1 ON" via RF, BVC/PCC will not see it due to the issue with the SDK. What if I send "B1 ON" via powerline, would BVC/PCC see it then? If the answer is yes, would I need to have a CM15A to do this, or should it work with a CM19A to just communicate the signal through the SDK?

Great suggestion regarding the Windows command workaround. If I understand correctly, I want to make a batch file in PCC that AHP can execute, is this right? Unfortunately I am getting an error when I try to make a batch file - I'll post the error message when I get home.

Thanks for your help, and welcome back!

The SDK will not report a RF signal sent from the PC.
Something that was maybe over looked initially and never fixed as it wasn't designed to work with the CM19 originally.
The SDK will report a sent PLC BVC and PCC will see this and act on it.
If you can find a CM15a I would recommend it over the CM19 mainly because of extra features and on
board memory.
However if your wishing to keep using the cm19 you'll need to use workarounds if you wish to have PCC or BVC react to a RF sent command.
As for windows commands with AHP.
I think this maybe a Smartmacro option and x10 has fixed issues with running batch files.
PCC actually runs faster executing a windows command than a batch file and faster if left open.
The syntax for a windows command is: PCC path as the command and  [Commandline name] as the argument.
Note: Commands are case sensitive
Hope that helps!

There is a thread I started on my forum which goes into detail on windows commands for PCC
PCC Commandline options (http://tuicemen.com/forum/index.php?topic=56.0)

...you have command line options? You just made my day. Somehow this had escaped my attention. I will play with this and report back.  >!

I should also tell you what it is I'm trying to do to make sure I'm on the right path. My main goal is to get voice feedback from OnAlert, such as "front door open" when a door/window sensor is triggered. My current (new) plan is to make an AHP macro triggered on the door/window sensor to trigger a windows command that points to a custom command line option I've created in PCC to speak "front door open". Do I have the right idea?

Thanks again!

For example, is there any way I can say "arm security system" and get AHP to arm the system? I could use Windows speech recognition to kick off a command for PCC, but PCC can't send the security arm command and it can't communicate with AHP to do it either. Or can it? And I can't control AHP via command line...right?

What is the command your trying?

Commands are case sensitive and this is were most users have a issue.
Also either the >< Or []  are missing.
These are needed or text is seen as multiple commands and PCC is capable of only seeing 2 at a time and the second is just a repeat value.

PCC can't send security commands. :-[
This is a SDK limitation :(
However there maybe a work arround.
This would work with a CM15 but unsure if the cm19 will do it with out a repeater.
X10nets may detect the outgoing signal and tell AHP the signal was seen. ::) :'
You can create a WSR that opens PCC and sends a regular x10 command.
In AHP create a macro that sends the command to arm when the x10 command is received.

Your command needs to be  [frontdooropen] if triggered from AHP you could use >Frontdooropen< from any other means
However if you wish PCC to just speak a Phrase Like your door is open! then
the command is Your/door/is/open!

As PCC grows it gets harder and harder for me to debug.
Some users have volunteered to help debug the current version in development and their input shows!
Since many of the options in PCC I've never used other then when coded, improvements often don't get thought of for that option.
Some of the improvement to the currently in testing version are from input from the testers.
If anyone wishes to be on the front lines and be one of the elite testers should drop me a PM.
Note: you'll need the current build already installed.

bfineman  you don't say how or where you were trying the command line from.
I've found most places require the repeat value to be added.
Also if using CMD or a batch file the sytax needs to be Pccompanion ">frontdooropen<" 0
note the quotations. ::) :'

I've updated the manual to reflect this and also most of the adds to the new version currently in testing.
you can find a link to the revised manual on my forum.

I've asked this question On my site in different ways.
However I realy never get a direct answer.
I can't believe how popular X10wavPlayer was (and still is with some)
Sure PCC has more possibilities and is the flag ship of my software creations.
But maybe it is time for a PCC light.
If you feel this would be of use to you  or you feel it isn't worth creating, I'd love to heard your input.
I created a thread on my site for discussion on this:

Hey T,

I don't know that I would use PCC light because since I have found more of the little features of PCC im loving it even more but It might be good for some users that dont need all of the features.  when I look at PCC not I think that the only feature that I'm not using is the phone stuff because of VIOP if we could get that to work Id use that one too.

IR Pilot
This will enable PCC 3.1.0.1 to interface with the USBUirt.
Once PCC 3.1.0.1 is released BlueWatch also will be able to send IR commands via X10Relayer and PCC UserCommands.

Some of you know that I've been working on a Android app.
If you've been visiting my forum you already know about T.A.C.
Currently it's in Alfa build but I hope to open it up for beta testers shortly.
If your a PCC user with the plugging pack and would like to beta test this PM me on my forum and I'll add you to the list.

Some of the things T.A.C. can do now.
Trigger PCC to perform any usercommand tasks.
Chat with a PCC client
Fetch and read the weather and reminders from PCC
Interact with other programs using X10Relayer.
TAC is capable of voice recognition and this is a planed add although I currently can't test that option.

A new update is now on the server
Version 3.1.1.1 adds WOL and some other networking power tools and the ability to be PC specific with the commands.
The cool thing is these are user commands so BlueWatch has access to them as does TAC once configured.
You can wake up all PCs or just one (they can't be wireless to come out of a full power down)
You can power down all PCs and or monitors except the server or do just one at a time.
You can even remote reboot any or all PCs. I'm not sure why you'd want to but the option is there. ::) :'

New version 3.1.1.2 released

Mostly fixes for the Wunderground weather pull and other reported errors this build.
It now uses a user specified URL which means the city name can be different then the station the info pull is coming from.
I noticed some stations were using a different tags in the URL address.
If you pull up the Wunderground map for your location you can select different weather stations (select one closest to you)
Once you have the closest weather station reporting in the map copy the URL to the PCC wunderground link box

Users continue to find ways to use this that I had never dreamed of.
Last night while attempting to debug a issue a user was having we discovered PCC on my computer could connect to their network.
This means you could run it from work.
Sure some options may not work like the camera stuf but it displays x10 info and you can use the chat function.
I never tested all options as that would take longer then I had time for.
In theory you should be able check BlueWatch status as well.
TAC also will talk to this PCC instance (that I tested)

With PCC 4 in final testing,I've updated the What will I need to do to move up to PCC 4 with VR? (http://tuicemen.com/forum/index.php?board=38.0) FAQ thread on my forum.
Some requirements have changed.
As long as your running XP sp3 or newer you should be able to run PCC4
However as new drivers are created more and more are requiring net framework 4 or greater.
From what I've read net 4.5 needs windows 7 minimum. ::) :'
Since net 4 is the last version of net that works with XP I've built PCC 4 with it.
Although PCC doesn't use any of these new drivers yet, net 4 is still required to run it.

PCC 4 with Voice Recognition should be ready early this weekend is now on the server . :)%
The update button in versions 3 should work as I've built the update installer file the same as a full installer.
PCC will tell you in the Options and Settings page when it is available for download. :)%
If not you can get the full installer from the PCC web Page (http://www.angelfire.com/in2/ontkoi/X10AHP/PcCompanion.html) once the page has been updated.
Since this is a very large update with many new options(adds), I won't be posting details here.
You can read that info on my forum.
Please make backups before you install this in case something goes wrong with the update process. ::) :'
Also make sure you have Net framework 4 installed prior to updating.
The manual is currently being updated by KENRAD with all the new adds, changes and new screen shots.
It isn't included in this release however I hope to have it ready for the next build if not sooner.

Since adding support for IP cameras I've added a few of these cameras into my of grid setup.
I'm not impressed with the current way PCC displays these so I've started coding  to eliminate the use of a htm file.

I'm reworking the PCC camera control page to include these type of cameras.
As well redesigned the main UI camera viewer for the IP cams.
This doesn't affect the regular capture card display.
However I'm left wondering if they should both look and feel the same?
I've started a thread on my forum  (http://tuicemen.com/forum/index.php?topic=599.msg3303#msg3303) looking for user input for options, look and feel.
Since many X10 forum members use PCC (even just the trial version), I'm hoping for some helpful ideas from its members!

PCC 4.0.4.6 is now on the server  :)%
This build was a bit of a challenge as I had to revert to a old backup after a PC crash then a Ice storm hampered things with power outages and surges.
The big add to this is the Microsoft Kinects Sensor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kinect) support which was expanded on improving Voice recognition by over 60% in my case.
The ability to tilt the Sensor and narrow the recognition angles of the 4 built in microphones allows for finer microphone adjustments.

Ultralight Companion is a web server that interfaces with PCC.
This allows any device with a working browser to trigger events in PCC even if PCC isn't running.
However if PCC is running it will receive confirmation that the commands were executed as well as what PCC says.

I still have no testers interested yet so progress has been slow.

A new version of PCC is now on the server 4.0.5.2.
This includes several fixes and settings for Ultralight (a web server that interfaces with PCC)

With Microsoft virtually giving away Windows 10 to anyone running Windows 7 or newer this should help with software development.
PCC will get a total rework not that it doesn't work on Windows 10 but there is a lot of redundant code now.
This may mean a new look as well.

With the passing of X10 WTI many old no longer available X10 devices supported in PCC will most likely get dropped.
I plan to add support for new devices Authinx develops provided it is possible if the Protocol is available.

However I'd like to hear from users running PCC (full or trial) the following:
1: What you'd like to see remain?
2: What would you like changed?

New update released:
With the SDK not looking to be updated any time soon and with users requests I've added the ability for PCC to see and trigger events from security sensor tripps without the need of AHP.
There are some limitations which delayed me from adding this however they are limitations to the SDK.
I've also added advanced timers to PCC which should solve the issues some are having with the AHP advanced timers.
Dusk Dawn calculations have been added and are usable in the advanced timers.
The weather pull has been updated and can now pull info as often as 20 seconds taking advance of rapid fire updates from PWS.
New drivers added to ensure Windows10 64 bit compatibility
Although I've included these with the updater it is recommended one uses the full installer if you haven't updated in a while.
The Plugin Pack gets 2 new apps and has also been updated to confirm all apps are Windows 10 64 bit compatible
As always, more info can be found on my forum

The Manual for PCC was updated to reflect most changes made recently including new screen shots.
the link to the PCC manual is:

Since installing Windows 10 I was quite happy with the stock Zira voice.
But I figured it was time to add my Kate16 voice .
This cause some issues with PCC on saving the settings.
A restart of PCC seemed to fix that how ever going into settings again and resaving means having to restart PCC.
Not a big deal but I got use to not having to do that. B:(
Checking the Windows TTS settings I discovered Kate wasn't there to be set as the computers default voice ???
Seems this has been a issue since Windows 7 for some users though this is the first I noticed it  B:(
I went about installing some extra language packs which gave me 4 or 5 more new voices.
Of which only Hazel (from the Great Britain pack) I kept and currently use with the Ultra Face set. (Kate16 is for Operator II)

I did find a hidden voice "Eva mobile" which just requires a registry entry to unlock.
This shows up as a system default voice however PCC doesn't see it :(
If anyone is interested in testing the Eva Mobile voice I have posted the registry file in my forum (members only section) >!

Version 4.0.5.9 just released.
The big add is a reworked floorplan mode which can be integrated with Ultra light (webserver)
This will display a updated status of your devices including security devices on the web page.
There were lots of adds and changes in this version which will require users utilizing the floorplan mode to clear and redo it, however it does perform better. ;)

I'm currently reworking PCC as the weather pulls aren't working. :-[
if you were using CSV files (like me) then you may not have noticed this.
the new build will require a free wundergound API key for weather pulls and triggers.

With all the hype about Amazon Alexa I had to see if I could get PCC to respond to a voice command from her.
Using HA-Bridge and a simple script (I used a batch file) I got it to work. :)%
here is how you do it.
create a batch file which will contain the path to PCC and the command
here is a test one I did to speak the weather:
Code: [Select]
@ echo off
start C:\"PC Companion"\pccompanion ">Weather?<" 0
I saved it  as WeatherFetch.bat and placed it in the HA_Bridge scripts folder

In HA-bridge click manual add
1: Type in a command name
2: In device type select execute script/program
3: In the on url  type the location and name of the batch file eg: scripts/WeatherFetch.bat
4: Click Add Bridge Device

I'll look at having PCC auto create batch files similar to how Alex10 does ( if there is user interest)

I've started to rework PCC to allow better integration with Alexa.
In doing so I find several options in PCC that I feel are obsolete.
I'm interested in what others think.
What should stay and what should I remove?
With the Alexa app and or A few Alexa devices
1: a web interface isn't require
2: the chat option is no longer needed
3: the TAC interface is no longer required
4: linking to other PCs is no longer required so X10relayer becomes obsolete
5: optional Weather reports are no longer require(however that will remain to allow weather event triggering)
6: memos/reminders obsolete
7: Voice Timers to a degree also obsolete

With newer electronics and X10 IR code base so out dated support for the VCR commander is obsolete
Hummm maybe the whole application is on the road to becoming obsolete. ::) :'

I've started to rework PCC to allow better integration with Alexa.......

There are a lot of things Alexa does right. I somehow think it's designers are familiar with past posts on this forum. Right now.... reminders from Alexa also notifies our/my phone. I also get such notices from the MyQ app (about my garage door activity).

An app that would allow some X10 actions to be sent to an phones app... would be great. Particularly.... if the sounds heard from the phone could be selected from a few wav files made using the Kate16 voice.

That is certainly possible however the app would need to be always running on the phone or at least when the notifications were sent. Sending SMS is probably the best and can currently be done.
There are several apps that will read text messages as they come in or your phone can announce with different sounds based on who their from. ;)

...... the app would need to be always running on the phone or at least when the notifications were sent.

I am not so sure about that anymore.... but maybe. Even just text alerts... I would think... would be better than nothing (if you're thinking about updating your app anyway).

But the phones (can be set to) automatically RE-pair with devices they are previously set to pair with.... like the car. So the phone itself or a more centrally located (and louder) BT speaker setup.... could be very Star Trek like.

But.... I am having a hard time justifying having a HA PC (even though mine is currently a laptop) running 24/7. Giving the PC more duties/tasks/responsibilities would be one way to help rationalize running an old-fashion HA PC. Another option is reducing the size of the PC... to a stick sized or a slightly little larger device (like my homeseer unit).

OR MAYBE.... once the new X10 interface is up and running....... it's app could speak/share data with other apps. Which in effect... would make our phones the HA PC. Let us hope X10 makes and SDK for their new device/app.

PCC has been able to sent emails & text messages for years now. I guess I never gave that option much publicity. :-[

I also have a hard time justifying a HA PC running 24/7 it must perform multitasks. Mini PCs or old thin client PCs can be setup to be used as movie steaming devices and easily handle HA at the same time as other operations. Wireless keyboards and mice are common and can be placed out of sight.

I'm told there will be no SDK for the new Wi-Fi module however Authinx is pushing to get the protocol and release that.
I've asked for the new module to be able to send Push Put web requests in the scenes but that is just one of the options I asked for that I've yet to see. That option would allow interaction with other hubs if the user knew the protocols of the other hubs. ::) :'

Good is NOT the enemy of the perfect. Any interface that keeps X10 functioning in the current [fast moving] marketplace.... is a very good thing. Home automation has always been cutting edge and therefore dynamic at it's very basic nature. HA ain't going static now. Being visionary may be best left to trillion dollar corps like Amazon. But keeping up is going to be a fulltime task for X10 and every other entry in HA.
