Title: Don't always receive email message from X10Gateway

I have a Motion Sensor that triggers a Camera On Macro when motion is detected in my driveway.  The Macro also sends me an email message.  The email message is received if my internet browser (software) is active or inactive.  But I do not receive the email message if my router is off.   Why wouldn't I receive the message from the X10Gateway when the router is turned off?  Shouldn't the message be there once the router is turned on?  Have I missed a setting some place?

If your router is off, the PC with AHP on it cannot see the internet.  Routers are always connected to the cable modem by a length of CAT5 cable.

Like Dan said if your active home computer is hooked to the internet Through the router.....there is noway for your email to get Through.

Can I ask why you are shutting off your router? or is this just when the router has a power problem (power outage)

Ah, so it's the issue that AHP/MyHouse can't send the message to the X10Gateway when the router is off ... dah!!! Thanks Dan

Jsnlong -- To answer your question.  With the wireless router off, there is less interference and the camera image is less distorted.  So I shut the router off when we are gone.

All routers, wired or wireless have ports on them for wired connections. I would connect the PC with AHP to a wired port.   Is the camera also wireless?   

I have a Belkin Wireless G Plus MIMO Router, it has two antennas and 5 wired posts.  The wireless speed is half of the wired speed, which is 100.0 MPS, the wireless speed is only 52  MPS.  The 3 PCs that are connected to it are all wired connections.

Don N on most routers.. you can change you wireless "channels". It's a firmware setting change not a switch but other than that its much like you can change channels on the X10 cameras. With a little trial and error you should be able to get good video.

Yea I would start with changing the Wireless channel. What router are you using maybe you or we can find how to make that adjustment.

I would guess since you have a wireless router then you want the wireless part  rofl but some wireless routers do let you shut off the wireless and only use the wired ports if that's what you want

Are you using X10 cameras?

O.K. lots of questions to be answered here.

Here's my setup.  I have a DSL line that's connected to a Siemens modem.  The modem is connected to a Linksys wireless router (that my wife uses for work).  My PC (with AHP) is hardwired to the Linksys wireless router.  I'm using X10 wireless cameras.

I think my only choice is to change the wireless channel.  However, I'm a little reluctant to change the wireless channels for fear of causing havoc with my wife's (work) PC connection.

Jsnlong -- I'm not sure how to shut off the wireless and only use the wired ports, as you suggested.  However, that would work if I knew how to do that.

I think I would be reluctant to make changes to the router myself. With my router and cable broadband connection, making a significant change can cause the network to assign a new IP address to the modem. I don't know your wife's use, or if DSL ever reassigns IP addresses, or even if you have a static IP now. But I do have a good working knowledge of WAF... and I understand that any error here would be critical.

I would commit to leave the router on so as to get the email notification. I then would turn my attention to the camera setup itself to correct the "interference and image distortion".

Of course my first thought would be to replace the driveway camera with a wired camera, or convert it to wired (http://www.x10community.com/forums/index.php?topic=13139.msg73162#msg73162). Of course sometimes wired can be really difficult to install in some areas. Maybe finding a new location to get a similar camera view with a wired camera may help. Or staying wireless and getting the [another] receiver located closer to the driveway camera might reduce the router interference.

Lastly... replacing that one camera with a wireless camera that uses another frequenty, like 900mhz (http://www.geeks.com/details.asp?invtid=MINI-WIRELESS-CAM2&cpc=SCH), could help.

Thanks for the suggestions.  I think I solved my problem.  A stroke of genious on my part ...  ;D  My wireless router and my VR42A (wireless audio/receiver) for my camera were about 1 foot apart.  I moved my VR42A about 6 feet from the router.  And there is now very little if any interference from the router.  I get a good image from all four cameras.  So I can now leave my router on, get an email notification and get a great image.  Problem solved.
