Title: Promblems with Vanguard setup
Post by: kphigh on May 31, 2009, 10:08:50 AM
Hi,

I received my order from x10 last week.  It came with the USB firecracker, ninja pan and tilt camera, USB  video adapter, Video receiver and a motion sensor.

I installed the software, video adapter and firecracker drivers and devices..here's where the problems begin.  B:(  When I launch the Vanguard software, I do not receive a  picture from the camera, the pan and tile remote commands to not appear to be picked up by the camera or the firecracker(the red light on the firecracker does not light up).  When I click on the camera controls on the Vanguard browser, the light on the firecracker lights up, but the camera does nothing..

I went into my device manager, as suggested in another post, and the video driver and firecracker appear to be working ok.. I'm running window XP and my windows software is up to date..

Any ideas on what may be causing no picture and the camera remote to not function?

thanks
kevin

For starters.....Make sure your Video Receiver and Cameras are on the "SAME" Channel.... The channel switch on the receiver is underneath the unit, and the channel switch on the cameras is under the little rubber piece on the base of the camera.

Also make sure you have your House and Unit Codes for each camera set up in Vanguard correctly (Example: A1,A2,A3,A4,etc......)

Hi Kramer,

Yup..the receive and camera are set to channel A and the home/unit codes are set to A/1

Under Options in Vanguard, did you set up the camera there properly? Vanguard does not know what hardware you have until you tell it. It also does not tell you to set these things up when you first open it.

OK!  :) Now the motion sensor may have turned the camera off, and you need to set up that device under options in Vanguard also. The default setting on my Eagle motion detector is to turn the camera off 1 minute after motion is detected, but you can change that interval using the buttons inside the motion sensor.

You can try moving in front of the motion detector to see if the camera picture comes on (put it all in the room with the PC to ease testing). When my camera is turned off, I see a screen of black and white static -- do you see that?

I also had trouble with an older computer not having the right type of USB ports on it. These devices need the higher speed USB 2 ports.

Thanks Sue..  I don't have the motion sensor set up yet, however, I do see a black screen with white static.. (wonder if the camera is off somehow). ??? Is there a way to test to see if the camera is on?

I double checked and I do have USB 2.0 ports..

Normally when you plug in the camera power supply the camera will automatically be on.  You can try to unplug it then plug it back in.

Sounds like you need a TM751 module installed, some kits come with it and some don't!  ???
The fire cracker sends out RF signals which must be turned to plc in order to send on off signals. the pan n tilt respond to RF but cam power doesn't. ::) :'

Good catch Tuicemen!  I think most of us just assumed that the user had one.  Should have known better!   rofl

I wonder why they don't ask if you have a TM751 or make it part of the order  ???

Some kits include a transceiver some don't!
Experienced users tend to already have one which is what Vanguard was originally designed for.

Ok.. my TM751 came today.. plugged it in and nothing happened with the camera.  The CR14A will turn on or off the TM751..not sure which but when I press the c1 button after that nothing..  When I launch Vanguard, the camera directional indicators sends a signal to the firecracker but again nothing..  I tried switching everything to the B channel and nothing.. Any ideas?

thanks

Make sure you used the Ninja  power supply and not the camera power supply. They are different!

Also, I found a bad electrical circuit in my house was killing all my cameras yesterday. A light in one room was flickering. I found its circuit breaker and turned it off. Cameras all back to OK now.

Hi Sue,

There was only 1 power supply with my Ninja.. the camera plugs into the tilt and pan base so I think I'm ok there..   I used to have the Home Automation on my lights until I switched over to CF lights so I think the wiring should be ok, but I'll try a couple of different outlets and see if that helps...

thanks for your help..

I tried Sue's suggestion and I also re-install the software and still nothing.   Any other ideas?  Maybe I should just send the whole system back...   :(
