I am not sure I am ready for facebook... yet. But I do have an idea for X10. A RF X10 [only] remote control with selectable pictures/images like in the Icon remote. Build it all into a switchplate sized touchscreen so it can be stuck to the wall by a door, or next to the thermostat, or placed on a stand next to a chair or bed.

You could even give it a keypad face option.... so it could be used with a DS7000.

I'm not even the least bit interested in Facebook.   I would not use it if you paid me to use it. :(

Hmmmm I thought that's what THIS forum was for.  Pretty sure that we talk techy here, and I'll bet the seasoned users here "get it"  way more than the average FB user.

So now X10 is telling me that the Board Topic "X10 Product Wish List" isn't for throwing out new product ideas?  That's quite a disappointment, as it would appear that anyone posting there will now have to duplicate their efforts on another forum to get the attention of the company.

Hear hear... I agree with Knightrider. You should be looking here ALSO (at least) for ideas.

In the last couple of days we've had X10 embracing facebook and twitter - neither of which I intend to use as they are generally renowned throughout the universe as 'time-suckers'.

Maybe someone from X10 could look over the ideas already on this forum and give us a clue what they think might be worth developing and what they think is a ton of 'gob****e'.  >*<

Let's see some support here for our 'loyal community members' before you go off collecting facebook 'friends' who just want to post about how trashed they got last night.

How about a regular X10 camera with the correct color filter installed (or is that removed) so it can can see IR. Then X10 can sell separate illuminators (IR lights) that only the camera will see. So the IR illuminator (http://www.avtechsolutions.com/s_ir_illuminators.htm) can then be placed near or at the site that the user wants to monitor.

IMHO, there are more than enough ideas and problems stated on this forum that X10 needs to address, all posted by a dedicated user base.

Why do we need yet another "trendy" way to discuss issues that are already being discussed?

Anyone remember the "community blogs"?

Those didn't accomplish much.   rofl

Personally, I don't feel the need to sign up for a Facebook account and have to police yet another "public profile" and worry about who may be hijacking it.

Good luck with the latest "trendy" communications venue!

Meanwhile, this "Luddite" will hold the fort and continue to help out on these "old" tried-and-true forums.

I wonder if the term "Luddite" [defined as opposition to, or fear of, a specific or general technological development] would really apply to anyone here at the forums. X10 and/or Home Automation has always been and will likely always be cutting edge. I think most of us old fogies here at the forums enjoy high technology. But lets be honest. Facebook, twitter, text messages... aren't high tech.. they are merely "trendy" technology (as you rightly called it).

What was that song we sang as kids: Make new friends but keep the old... one is silver and the other is gold.

"Luddite" would apply by that definition, since I fear how easily "social networking sites" are getting us to make too much information about ourselves public.  Whether it is information intentionally supplied, or just that it's not obvious to the user how public that information will be.

For instance...  I have been a Hotmail user since nearly day one, and MSN (now "Live") Messenger as well.  I was rather upset when I installed the latest version of Live Messenger to find that without really telling me it would happen, it sent out invitations to everyone in my Hotmail address book and added to my public profile, a listing of "people in my network".  It never was my idea to share my social connections with everyone in the world.  :o  I only found out it had happened when a co-worker that was also on my contact list asked me who my sister was (by name) like he thought she might be someone I was cheating on my wife with!   :o

I just don't think that we should be forced to use the currently "trendy" technology to communicate with X10 just because "it's cool"  8) , without regard for our personal take on whether or not it's "safe"!   >*<

I for one hope that it would not be the end of this forum.
The vast information here of which can easily be accessed is historical.
The community sites are fine for those needing to have a moment so as share their ideas or feeling about anything or nothing. A form of chat room in slo-mo. I guess it will be fine to have more forms of exposure as long as there is no come back of the X10 Swim Suit or Porn like images.

I have a facebook account, but I do not intend to use it for exposure, I keep it for personal family connections only.
As for Socialite, I like to share my opinion here, So for me I think its a New Remote Control with quick link buttons to Twitter and Facebook for new way for connection to your Cams and X10 and sharing them on those community sites.

That's what I think and am sharing it here.
BaBaLou.

I agree with the rest of you.  I think X10 is going onto Facebook and Twitter just for the exposure.  There's more than enough material here to completly redo the product line if they want to, but obviously they don't.  I wish them luck,  they certainly need it.  I have no intention of joining Facebook or Twitter but I admit that could change in the future, although I doubt it.

I just wanted to say thanks for keeping Bill and Brian in the loop.  rofl  I read about all this facebook stuff and I just think WWMHTAT (What Would Miley Have Tweeted About This).

Farmer Fred Jr What about a module that goes inline with the telephone cord and triggers a macro when the phone rings (like mute the TV, increase brightness on lamp etc)

That one caught my attention.. would be easy enough to do too. Attach an old phone ringer to a powerflash module... then write a macro (or two). I use BVC with IR control (http://www.davesdomainonline.com/bvc/bvc.htm) so a mute to the TV would be easy. Even though I keep the Home Automation computer in the basement I get IR upstairs by using PowerMids (http://www.x10.com/automation/pm5900_s.html).

I like Facebook, but it seems a terrible venue for X10 technical discussions. This board is much better suited for that.

I agree.

The contest are good on facebook and Twitter and I'm sure it will open up some new customers.
The forum is better for technical stuff and for veteran users also.

I agree with the assurtion X10 lackies have done nothing with the information they have asked for, and it will be the same for "Twitterbook". But  I am not going to carry X10's water on "Twitterbook" for them.

Tuicemen's AlertDialer and Alertdialer Plus with AHP and maybe BVC/USB-UIRT will do this.  Any older phone with a powerflash hooked to the ringer bell will accomplish the same, and I believe that the x10 telephone responder will trip an address upon ring.

LOR speeds compared to X10 speeds are like comparing a runner from "Logan's Run" to the Millennium Falcon.  Anybody using LOR would be disappointed.

This can be referenced from this forum.  Hunter Douglas (a blind company) makes an auto closer/opener option on all of their blinds which can be easily interfaced to x10 with information and help from the forum.

Why do I bring all of this up?

The point is that if you want x10 specific information, find it here.  If you want to be friends with Miley, or Brittany, or Zac, find it at that other place.

I agree 100%. I enjoy helping folks, [ rant ON] but X10 is becoming tiresome in their lack of responsibility. Their web site makes in sound as if a four year old could automate a home. Their two wire switches will not work with CFLs or LED lights but X10 only causally states that fact with statements like "Perfect for ceiling lights, track lights, and other incandescent lights" and " Imagine making any incandescent light dimmable". That really makes it clear that they aren't for anything BUT incandescent, doesn't it? It isn't until one drills down through their FAQ that there is a hint of underlying difficulties. [rant OFF] I can't wait to see some of the Twitbookers questions.

Dear X10 forums,

I am having problems with my new X10 devices/cameras not operating when I click the button. What is wrong with them?

<english humour mode = ON>

Dear X10 User,

Regretfully we are unable to answer your question at this user/fan supported forum. Might we suggest that you repeat your question over at the official X10 Facebook / MySpace / Twitter user group.

The dedicated X10 staff monitoring those groups will know exactly what you need to do without knowing what hardware or software you are trying to use. They will also know all there is to know about buggy software releases, phase coupling, noise issues, macro problems, dummy/phantom module use and a gazillion other things that might or might not be wrong with your setup.

They will also gladly tell you that your idea (the original one that you recycled from this forum) is absolutely fantastic and will probably be put into production by the end of the week.

The quality of the support over at TwitsFaceSpace is equalled only by their official helpdesk and customer support line.

<english humour mode = OFF>

 -:)
X10 could always use TwitsFaceSpace to promote the forum and have their unpaid 'helpers' here attempt to answer the questions. Or am I just being unrealistic expecting the average Twitter user to understand anything greater than 140 characters in length? I must be getting old, I remember the phrase as "words of more than one syllable"

I still think that X10 is moving on from automation stuff.. Not away from it just not working on anything new to their module line.

The new socialite thing seems to be confriming my idea. They say its a remote that lets you rate your Fav. TV shows and it also interface twitter and Facebook oh then they said it can do "much more"....
It almost sounds like they are setting up a rating system server for TV shows and my guess would be selling the information to groups. But bet they also make yo upay for th remote!! Win win for them.. Not for sure on this so we will have to wait till it comes out to know 100% what it is. (Just weird on wh ythey added a rating system at all)

Again this is just my 2 cents. We all complain about X10 not listening to ideas and we all can agree they really haven't changed much or came out with anything new on their modules or cameras. But this would be the second remote they have made this year!!

I thought it would a matter of time before a X10 customer found Facebook to complain!!

FACEBOOK USER: Bought a camera system 8-27-09, had receiver problem, sent receiver back 9-1-09 and called 4 time to see status on receiver. have not got new receiver yet from x10. Do not buy from this company, if you have problems your out in the clod, they don't care . they got your money and that is what they wanted! will post daily, want everyone to know about this company.

Was just a matter of time!!! ahh it feels like home there now just like the Forum!!  rofl
