Title: Video of X10 + BVC + iPhone for Radio Control.

In theory, if BVC was modded to allow for keyboard I/O I could entirely remove the X10 palmpads and entirely use the iPhone to do everything.

Very cool!  Now I know why you've been asking for the keyboard I/O stuff, you could trim it down and stop using the palmpads!

You know, I say that, but I am not 100% sure it is the most convenient method though.

The problem with the phone is you have to lock and unlock it, wasting time.  I could leave it on all the time, which is an option, but then I have to contend with the problem of frequent disconnects from the computer.  I might be able to try a different router which would have better success though.

It is always hard to replace hard buttons that have a dedicated function because of the simplicity they offer.  That being said, it would sure be fun to try to replace the controllers and go solely to the phone to do everything.

Crestron probably too pricey, but HSTouch may be in your budget.  It will take care of that.

BVC is a must but what I want is to unlock my house door and unarm the alarm. If I can see what is still powered on, on the iPhone. My IPhone is always by my side. Touch screen + bvc very nice! I know u build it.!

Haha, no?  Did I say something wrong?

I figured he was not ready for Crestron since those are very pricey and require an installer.  But other ones like HomeSeer are more manageable to the average person.  Crestron is in the many thousands while HS is like $400.

Have you iphone owners checked out melloware's software? Works with itouch ipods as well.

Just depends on what you want.  The stuff by melloware is kind of a toy.  It is very restrictive, but does do some basic X10 stuff.  If you want to just do X10, then it would work.

But that approach really does not tap the potential of what a touch screen can do.  MainLobby, CQC, and HomeSeer all have good fully customizable touchscreens and all have or will shortly have iPhone apps that are compatible.

How about net remote and girder.

Netremote is not really meant for the iPhone.  I looked into it and its pretty crude.  Girder itself is also pretty limited and quite a pain to use.  I have mostly given up on it.

Wait a minute... are you saying all I've read and even seen (YouTube Video) about the iphone controlling Lights and other X10 stuff isn't really ready yet?????? I've actually concidered investing in an itouch.

Just depends on what you want. If you are satisfied with a fixed interface that cannot be customized and just want to do basic things then you are ok.  The stuff by melloware and promixis is kind of clunky in my opinion.

But as I said the before there are other options if you want some customizable and more functional.

The problem with the phone is battery life. Plugged in all the time is a pain. If you lock the screen, it's a pain to unlock it, even without a password.  So if I have to go through that then I want something more than a basic toy like melloware and netremote.  Just depends on what you want really

Just depends on what you want.

So if I buy a itouch and download the app I've seen on youtube... do I have to also buy a new interface to control X10? Would it work with my CM15A?

I am not an expert and there are so many approches with different compatiblies.

But girder does work with the cm15a so netremote should as well. I used girder but not netremote so cannot be 100% sure.  I don't know much about promixis' attempt there, but I believe they are working on a "real" iPhone solution, which implies that what they have now is not that great.  But again not sure. They have a board that could help.  I did not find girder to be too impressive so I started looking elsewhere.

Most of them have trial versions so you can give it a shot. Would be curious to see how things pan out.

Homeseer looks good and works with everything you have. I can't seem to hold the connection though.

Mainlobby and cqc look to have solutions soon.  I believe the cqc app is being submitted soon.

Oh yeah. One more app I am following is called irule which is to be out soon.  It is really intended as a remote control but you can use it to send ir to the x10 ir unit, I forget the name.

But homeseer has things like 2 way communication with iTunes so you can see songs and all. Does weather, etc. Way more powerful than just simple on/off stuff.  I found custom ones like hstouch to be pretty amazing.

I did a little practice with net remote and it is some sort of custom app that you design to control girder. It was like a virtual remote on my computer screen must be able to use on a palm or other. I am not good at learning object based software and programming. But girder is supposed to be some linking software that will interlink multiple programs. with all kinds of plugins, for software control would be nice if someone figured out some code to use on AHP.
