Title: Wireless Cam question - interference w/ wireless networks?
Post by: pconroy on March 09, 2010, 11:20:04 PM
Hi,

Perusing a camera specs (I think it was the wireless Flood/Camera one) I thought I saw that it transmits on 2.4GHz.
If that's true - has anyone had it interfere with their 802.11b/g/n network?

I ask because I had some Phillip's branded wireless baby cameras that used 2.4GHz.   I used them when the kids were, uh, babies - and they worked great.

I dusted them off about a year ago and noticed that our laptops wouldn't connect wirelessly to the router anymore.  I did a little research and found it wasn't uncommon for 2.4GHz devices to interfere with 802.11 connections.

I put them off in a corner and figured they were destined to gather dust until some new 802 spec came out.  ;)

Anyway - it got me wondering if the X10 cams, do xmit on a 2.4GHz band, and if so - has anyone else noticed a problem with their wireless network connections?

Yes the wireless cameras also use the 2.4GHz. band.

Can't say about any particular model of network devices and other 2.4GHz items. Though many are known to interfere with the cameras and each other. Sometimes selecting channels on all the devices will work while other combinations are a constant problem.

Thanks Brian.
I forgot to look in their Wiki first.

They mention interference as a concern:

I've got one old 802.11b laptop running my HA software.
I guess I need to do some testing before I pickup any cameras.
