Title: Generic USB Video Capture Adapter instead of VA11A
Post by: Aaron1312042 on April 10, 2010, 04:41:15 PM
Has anyone purchased a generic USB video capture device from EBay as a substitute for the VA11a?

I've attached an EBay link:

If you mean to use the/a generic video capture device as a replacement to X10's with X10 AHP or vanguard software.... it won't [or shouldn't] work. X10 constructs its software to ONLY use its own video adapter. The adapters required are ether the VA11A or VA12A... depending on your computers OS.

I bought on eBay the cheapest USB that has 4 video and one audio and it works fine with all X10 software, there are tons of them being sold from many sellers.
Note that the video needs to be plugged into the channel 2 jack and also I use it with XP and also Windows 7 32bit.

My Va11A won't work with Windows 7 and the problem with my VA12A is it will only show an inverted image when running Multiview in it's 4 video panes. I have tried everything dealing with codecs etc and just gave up.

The VA12A does look great in the other X10 programs but I prefer Multiview more than the iWitness.

I have an eMachines eM250 Netbook with a built-in webcam, and the Vanguard software recognizes it no problem.

Sorry, I forgot to mention that the webcam is identified as a USB device in Windows device manager.
