Title: Any new SDK released by X10?
Post by: mvago on October 18, 2010, 03:53:42 PM
Hi,

Is there any new SDK from X10?
I'm looking forward for X10 do release a new SDK that support the door/windows sensor. Where I can get the events of open and close from those devices.

Any news about that or any solution for that (other than using the ActiveHome software to trigger a X10 event for these devices?).

Thanks!

Check out blog.x10.com and then http://blog.x10.com/x10-community/calling-all-x10-linux-and-mac-geeks/

You can see that on Oct 7th, they said they'd have a some updates, but I haven't seen anything yet.

Looks like a blog/spam site to me
The usual X10 commercial spam that never seems to come true?
Or what they say is always too good to be true?

I'm less jaded and more optimistic.

X10 Development is now actively participating on the board, albeit for their new product.
But that's a good sign

I think they actually want Linux and Mac geeks to pitch in and write some software; fill a gap in their market place.
I just think they didn't think the Linux thing thru.
Someone thought it would be more straight forward than it is.

Maybe they thought Linux and Macs had DLLs. :)
(We do, they're just called shared libraries!)

What continues to puzzle me is why they don't release the communication protocol for the CM15A?
I can't help but wonder if there are other facets in play that make it difficult for them to publish the work?

I only base my view on past experience with X10.

Would be nice if X10 actually listened to users, fixed bugs, added new features, wrote some new code once in a while, etc.

Seems most of their effort is spent on making really cluttered web site pages with young girls on every page showing all the things you can do with X10 once you buy it.

Would be nice if they involved the programing crowd and made some changes.
