Title: Attention HeyU Users
Post by: pconroy on October 22, 2010, 06:46:09 PM
I hope this is ok to post this here, but Charles Sullivan, a person who's done so much for "heyu" posted this on the yahoo message boards:

> Due to rapidly declining health I am forced to announce my retirement
> as developer/maintainer of Heyu, effective immediately.
>
> Janusz Krzysztofik has agreed to succeed me in the above positions.
> Janusz is a power user of Heyu, is reasonably familiar with Heyu
> internals, and is a very competant C and Linux programmer.
>
> Needless to say, I will endeavor to assist Janusz as I am able.
>
> Regards,
> Charles Sullivan

I certainly wish nothing but the best for Charles and thank him for working so hard on an application that's touched so many people!

Charles has been a great contributor to our forums and the X10 community at large.
I would also wish him nothing but the best.

Charles has always had my back when I slipped up and posted something stupid.  I've never even used HeyU, but that forum is always great reading.  I hope Charles sticks around here and the other place as long as he can.

I know nearly nothing about Linux and HeyU. Charles Sullivan has always [in my memory] kept the forum up on these issues... and much more. Best of luck Charles.

I don't know how many times I've read this thread over the past few days, meaning to post each and every time.

There is so much to be said for Charles's contributions to the HA community in general.

But all I can think to say is...

Get better darn it!

From Daniel Suthers (the author of Heyu):

I'm sorry to report that Charles is no longer with us. His brother
notified me that he passed away peacefully last Wednesday.

Turn on a light for him tonight, OK?

Daniel

Thanks for the link Brandt. The Funeral Home has an on-line Guess Book that can be [found and] signed by following the link(s). The posts are reviewed before being displayed. It is a great way to show our respect... in the same way we knew Charles... on-line.

There will be an online Celebration of Life service on Sunday at KDR's Chat (www.bdshost.com/ac) at 9 PM Eastern, after which we'll all dim the lights for 15 minutes in honor of one of the great pioneers in Home Automation.

Those wishing to attend should get a user account and Java before hand.  Please bring any great stories you wish to share about our dear friend.

the Rev. Brian S. Vance will be officiating.
