Title: Max distance of motion sensor is only 20', isn't it too limit?

If you need use it to control light in backyard, you need better detect distance

Since we are a user to user forum. Your request for greater range will most likely not be seen by X10 Inc. proper.

Try searching the forums for maybe Passive Antenna and Motion Sensor.
The range of them is dependent on things like walls and metal between them and the transceiver.
Also if you mounted it on a metal surface. That will decrease the range greatly.

I am just trying to get some idea, not ask for product or something.
I have security motion sensor lights from department store, they range 50' or 80'. So when I checked the distance of the ActiveEye and found the distance is only 20', I was surprised.

Distances vary as you have found.
With no obstruction and the motion sensor antenna oriented toward the transceiver. You may get better range.
They are directional.

Are you talking about motion sensing distance or the distance that the RF signal will transmit/receive?

If it's a motion sensing distance you can move the motion closer or use multiple sensors to cover a larger area.

If it's an RF distance you're having trouble with you can investigate antenna modifications.
