Title: Download error - not enough space
Post by: wc4r on November 23, 2011, 04:21:57 PM
I reinstalled my X10 Active Home Pro software and registered it. When I try to download to the interface I get a Download Error. It goes on to say There is not enough space in the interface to download your timers and macros. I have reset everything, reinstalled again, removed all power, etc. What is going on and how can this be fixed?

More info needed.  What version of AHP and which interface do you have?.  What timers/macros?   What type of computer?

You can't download to the CM19A. It doesn't have any internal memory.

But I have been doing it for 2 years now. I close the program out and it controls my lights just ine.

I can't explain that.
However, the CM19A (black unit, attached USB cable) has no internal memory. The PC must be connected and turned on for it to work.

The CM15A (white unit, separate USB cable, four AAA batteries) is the one with the internal memory.

Interesting. Up to a few days ago, the software clearly showed a clearing go the data and download to the device. All my stuff was controlled by the ActiveHouse sw even though the program was closed. Great system up to now.

It positively is a cm19a, verified. The program is not running in the background. Not minimized, not in the active services list. The PC is on, the program is closed. With the PC off, of course it controls nothing as there would be no power on the usb port. Why do I get this new download error window that has never popped up before?

Is x10nets running?

Did you recently update AHP to the latest revision?

Yes latest version. YES, x10nets.exe process is running!

wc4r apparently does not understand that the CM19A has NO MEMORY and the PC and AHP has to to be running for modules can be controlled.   Timers and macros cannot be uploaded to a CM19A.  For AHP to control modules there must be a transceiver (TM751 or RR501) in the X10 system.

Please don't be condensending. I've been using x10 stuff for 15 years! I have built pc's for a living years ago. Nothing I mean nothing has changed here from 2 days go til now EXCEPT for the new error window. Time to dig deeper. If you do not have the answer/knowledge, keep quiet.

Brian's question was if you had RECENTLY updated to the latest version.
If so, what version were you using before?
I think with 3.318 (and possibly with a version or two before), you might not need to keep AHP open, as long as X10nets is running.
I think that the X10nets service can now control the CM19A timer and macro functions without needing AHP running.
I can ask the developer for confirmation on that, if nobody else can confirm it.

I have been using the current version for about 2 weeks now. More than a week before the error appeared.

Been awhile since I tested a CM19a with AHP.
I also believe timers would run if x10nets was running even if AHP was not.

I have not seen the Download error myself but will see if I can make it happen.

Brian, since it's been established that the CM19A has no memory (like the CM15A) so timers and macros cannot be uploaded to it.  How wc4r could not notice this?

Do you know what version you had before?
There was a bug introduced in version 3.311, which causes a false "download needed" indicator.
If your previous version was older than that, perhaps that bug also introduced something with the CM19A (I don't have a CM19A, so I can't do any testing with it).

The bottom line is, there is no memory in the CM19A, so downloading won't accomplish anything.
If you are getting a warning when you exit that a download is needed, you can disable that warning in the AHP preferences.

Dan,
AHP give no messages indicating the CM19A has no internal memory.
I tried things like download timers and macros. AHP just indicated it was done. It was so fast. I knew it just blew off the command.

wc4r,
What plug ins do you have installed?
I am not sure if it matters, but might.

Did you make any changes to your timers and/or macros in AHP (if not, why would you have tried downloading?)?
Even though the CM15A has internal memory, it is limited, and I've run into it before. I think I solved it by lowering the dusk/dawn resolution from "daily" to "every 2 days".
As Brian stated, even though the CM19A has no internal memory, AHP "pretends" to download to it anyway (Personally, I think the whole "download" function should be greyed out if you are using an CM19A). Perhaps if the program is too large for the CM15A's memory, it gives the same error when it "pretends" to download to the CM19A, too. I'll ask the developers about that one.

I think you hit it right there. AHP thinks it is downloading and the software sure looks like it is doing just that. Unfortunately for some reason my system still will not operate and follow my schedule. I do not use any macros or dawn to dusk setting.

You said the problem started about a week after you updated AHP to the latest version.
Did you make any changes to your timers during that FIRST week? (If not, then AHP wouldn't have tried to "download").
Do you know what version you were using before (This may be a newer bug that came in since the previous version).

I assume you have a bunch of timers. Have you added more in the past week? (otherwise, why were you trying to download to the CM19A, anyway?)

There is no point downloading to the CM19A, since AHP can't actually download to it, and is only pretending.

Go into the "Hardware configuration", and change the dawn/dusk resolution the the highest interval (I think 8 days).
then try "downloading" again.
