I downloaded several books in Kindle format from Gutenberg.com, public domain site. Neither the built in reader or the Kindle reader shows the Gutenberg books even though they show as loaded files on the unit. How do I get the readers to see those or other books not bought from Amazon? I have read all the problem and troubleshooting section and found no answer.

I am not able to help you, as I have not purchased an air pad yet. I am reading the forums to see if people like it/ what problems they may or may not have.
However, Gutenberg books are free because the copywrite ran out. Instead of struggling to have it be compatible, why not order off of Amazon? Those same books will be free. Plus they download directly to the kindle app. Google books are also free, not sure if they have a free app for those or they work with kindle.
