Title: AirPad XL and Google Play Store App Problems
Post by: ghawkz on March 10, 2012, 11:03:39 AM
I just got my XL recently and have managed to get most of what I want/need on it. I got the APK for the latest Google Play Store App (3.4.7) and installed it - it appears to work fine. Only problem is that anything it tries to download causes the app to fail during the install. Anybody got a fix or work around??

I was able to get the Goggle Play Store App working by putting vending.com in the system/app folder and changing the permissions to 644, also changed the owner to bluetooth like all the other files in the directory(don't know if that was needed).

Could you give some steps on how you did that? I don't see the com.android.vending file/folder (I see the process running) and I don't have a /system/app folder to put it into. How did you change owner? Sorry, I'm still a bit new to Android stuff.

First u need to be willing to reflash device if something goes wrong....
if in doubt of any step please ask for clarification.
follow this link and download the file http://www.box.com/s/8obf8i5dj34cljq6axtk
The file u download "com.android.vending-1.apk" needs to be renamed to vending.apk(see below)

go to http://www.freewarelovers.com/android and download/install
Android Terminal Emulator and File Expert
open the Terminal Emulator app and type su then hit <enter>, if u see the # then u have root privileges.

type the follwing commands
cd / <enter>
chmod 755 system <enter>
chmod 755 system/app <enter>

hit the home key and start up the File Expert app
it will open and list the folders on ur system
navigate to the system/app folder
on far right side of app bar u will see a plus sign
hit the plus sign and it will open a tab for you
in that tab navigate to ur vending.apk file (default was /mnt/sdcard on mine)
if file has not been renamed rename it now using file expert
after file is renamed select the check box on right then hit copy
select the first tab where u should have navigated to ur /system/app folder and hit paste

reopen the terminal emulator program type
su <enter>
cd /system/app <enter>
chmod 644 vending.com

on my XL all files in the app folder were owned by user bluetooth so i just followed suit, u may not have to do this but mine works and it has not caused any problems.
if u type ls -l <enter> u will see a list of all the files and who owns them.
to change owner type
chown bluetooth vending.apk

if all went well when you reboot u should have google play working.

Hi Hairface,

Tried following the directions using a 7p with the new ICS firmware.
Can't seem to find the + sign on the right or anywhere on the screen to add the vending.apk file?
What am I missing?

Well, I'm on the XL and couldn't find the plus sign either.

Tried to copy the vending.apk file to /system/app via FileExpert and couldn't.
Even tried to move it via Terminal Emulator and it came back with a "cross
device" error.

I  was using an outdated version of File Expert but even using the current version didn't help.

I finally went in and did a chmod 777 instead of 755 as specified. Copied the apk in just fine!
I reset system and system/apk to 755 and did all the rest of hairface's setup (chmod and chown on apk), rebooted and have a working Google Play app! Thanks!

Thanks to hairface and ghawkz for this great fix !
I hope this will work as well when ICS version comes out.

What about the "fix" to 2.3.4 that Tuiceman "hinted" to about simply installing certain "Google apps" in a certain order?
check all over - can't find a word about this?

I have no idea if installing files mentioned on my web site will work for the XL.
I only know it works for the airpad 7 and 7P (Gingerbread).
No one has posted if it works or not for the 10 inch airpads or ICS

Hello!

I would like to use Airpad as a touch screen to control X10 module and iP cameras. Has any body tried it? Or does any body know how to go about it?
I know MyServant software can use touchscreen. But I haven't found a reasonably priced touchscreen that is wirelessly connected to PC running AHP.
AHP uses window os and I don't know any Airpad or notepad that uses window os.

Would greatly appreciate any help.

There are several thirdparty softwares created for androids.
I even created one.
Since the only android device I had at the time was an Airpad, it was designed using it.
TAC (http://tuicemen.com/tac) is available free on the market but since stock Airpads can't access this the APK is on my forum.
It needs X10Relayer to send the x10 signals to your interface and from your interface to TAC
Althought it is a touch screen app it also is a voice recognition app.

Tuicemen, I don't see where you have that info on your site for the 7 or 7p

Airpad posts are in the X10 News section
A search on the site should reveal the posts.
On going over these I discovered that the process has been tried and was successfull with ICS installed on an Airpad 7p.

I'm not sure I understand the question. ???
The instuctions for installing google play should work with any android device with out it.
However depending on the distributor there could be other things missing.
A factory reset of the rom is the key to a successsful install.

I have the Airpad XL  (Model CM008, Android 2.3.4) and this worked great for me.  I have both Google Play and the Amazon App store to choose from now.
Thanks!

Thanks Mr. T.

I have been away and on return will try your solution. In the mean time I'll order an AirPad.

Ployer has a custom version of ICS 4 on their website for the XL aka CM008 aka MOMO15. It is custom and password protected. However, you can get the file directly here:

http://en.ployer.cn/uploadfile/201205/CM008-4-0514.rar

I installed the image and surprise, its an AirPad build LOL.  I did the mods that you can search for in this forum and Google Play (Android Market) is installed!
