Title: Updated firmware for Windows 8 / IE10
Post by: X10 Repair Depot on March 13, 2013, 02:15:59 PM
This firmware fixes a compatibility issue when using Windows 8 and IE 10.

Download the appropriate firmware update. Be sure to use the correct one.

XX34A and XX41A (indoor pan / tilt camera labeled XC36A)
ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/airsight/XX34A41AWEBUI_20_8_1_155.bin (http://ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/airsight/XX34A41AWEBUI_20_8_1_155.bin)

XX36A and XX42A (outdoor non-moving camera labeled XC38A)
ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/airsight/XX36A42AWEBUI_20_8_3_122.bin (http://ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/airsight/XX36A42AWEBUI_20_8_3_122.bin)

XX40A  (outdoor pan/tilt/zoom domed camera labeled XC40A)
ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/airsight/XX40AWEBUI_20_8_5_47.bin (http://ftp.x10.com/pub/applications/airsight/XX40AWEBUI_20_8_5_47.bin)

Follows these critical instructions:
1)   The camera must be connected via a wired LAN connection. Do not attempt to do this over a wireless connection.
2)   The camera’s power supply should be plugged directly into the camera. Do not rely on a PoE connection.
3)   The upgrade must be done using Internet Explorer 8, 9, or 10 running in IE 9 mode (with IE open press F12 on the keyboard. One of the menu options will say “Browser Mode: IE10”. If you click that, you can select IE 9 mode)

Then
1) Enter the camera's web interface.
2) Select “multi device" then “upgrade device firmware”.
3) Press the “upgrade device embedded web UI” browse button, and navigate to the folder that contains the file that you downloaded. Press the submit button.
4) After several minutes the camera will reboot. At this time, shut down the browser and log onto the camera again.

The XX39A does also have a problem with IE10, but the new firmware has not been released yet. For now, you can use IE10 in IE9 mode (with IE open press F12 on the keyboard. One of the menu options will say “Browser Mode: IE10”. If you click that, you can select IE 9 mode) and it will work normally.

x10 moderator, I understand the feature in IE to switch back but I need these cameras to work as advertised on the site. Who do i need to speak with to get these problems resolved ? I am the IS/IT director for a large company who has spent $600 on these cameras and the owner is more then pissed.

Is this needed for Windows 7 SP1 with IE 10?

My setup is working just fine, though I had to set up my camera's IP and airsight.net to be in Compatibility View.   Just thought that possibly, this firmware update would negate the need for Compatibility View if its for all IE 10 installations, and not just Win 8.

Since you are on basically a peer-to-peer help site, if you could elaborate on your problem(s), possibly someone here could help.

I just installed an XX41A camera, and got it all up and running with just my basic networking knowledge (like selecting compatibility mode in IE 10).  Everything from WiFi to port forwarding, was pretty much straight forward (a pun?).   Is there something that I could convey from my personal experience to an "IS/IT director for a large company", I would be glad to help.

Okay so some of these comments are me shooting from my hip. But who can blame me !

Where do I start with these garbage cameras ?

Thankfully I got a hold of a tech who I have been working with over the past month.

This is what an X10 TECH HAS TOLD ME so far;

1. Can not set motion detection in IP CAM client, settings do not take effect properly and need to use IE and KEEP open ALL DAY long to record.
2. Don't follow the manual that the X10 camera came with, it is wrong. Use Wiki site. (tech site me link) Hey x10, WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SEND ME A PRODUCT WITH A INCORRECT MANUAL ?
Camera IRIS and FOCUS is NOT programed. Okay, so why is it THERE in the client ???????? Tech response is that firmware needs to be programed to make it happen. CHOP CHOP X10 !!!
3. Anytime you make any changes, firmware update, ect, ONLY use the IP camera web portal via IE. (WHAT THE HELL x10 !!! MAKE A PRODUCT THAT IS STRAIGHT FORWARD, NOT HALF BACKWARD)

What I've found and helped the tech learn;
Windows 7 users, Run IE as administrator, use IE developer tools to set IE to use as IE7. Go to web cam IP address, click download Active X, right click Active X and run as administrator.  Reopen IE, go to IP address of camera, won't load until you click the tools button on portal, let IE crash, reopen IE, relogin. (I have seen this on MULTIPLE Win7 PCS. FIX THIS STUFF X10 !!!!!!!! WHAT THE HELL ???

So I we also bought these cameras because as advertise shows and iPhone and says is able work on mobile devices. WRONG ! You need IP CAM VIEWER a THIRD PARTY client to make all the cameras work.

I ordered the cameras on my American Express card, I outta reverse the charges.

pkspx; Thank you for passing on the information you have gathered from being able to get information from an X10 Support person.
It maybe a help to other users and potential purchasers decisions.

1. Can not set motion detection in IP CAM client, settings do not take effect properly and need to use IE and KEEP open ALL DAY long to record.

Possibly things are different with different models of the cameras, but at least on mine, one can set it up to "record" to an FTP site.   IE, nor a connected PC, is required, once set up.

2. Don't follow the manual that the X10 camera came with, it is wrong. Use Wiki site. (tech site me link) Hey x10, WHAT THE HELL DID YOU SEND ME A PRODUCT WITH A INCORRECT MANUAL ?

Surprise surprise surprise.   On-line manuals and instructions can be more up-to-date than hardcopy printed manuals.  However, by reading the manual that came with my camera, I got to understand some of the really nice features of the camera.   Maybe you should try to read yours, before getting yourself so upset.

3. Anytime you make any changes, firmware update, ect, ONLY use the IP camera web portal via IE. (WHAT THE HELL x10 !!! MAKE A PRODUCT THAT IS STRAIGHT FORWARD, NOT HALF BACKWARD)

The interface uses ActiveX, and that's basically IE.    Since most people either use IE, or have IE installed, that should be a problem.   It wasn't for me, and I am not even an IT Manager.

So I we also bought these cameras because as advertise shows and iPhone and says is able work on mobile devices. WRONG ! You need IP CAM VIEWER a THIRD PARTY client to make all the cameras work.

I have no problems viewing my camera with both my phone and my tablet.   On both, I have the Chrome browser app, and can use it to easily view live video from my camera.

My only problem, is that the dumb IT manager here at work, has something set in the firewall that prevents me from accessing the live video on my PC here at work.  Though, I can just as easily use my phone.    :'

How are you using your iphone to view your x39 ?

I REALIZE that you can go to ANY browser and click the "mobile" check box on the web camera web portal. But when you have 10 cameras, why would you want to go to each one clicking that damn check box on your iphone as as small as the screen is to see each camera ? I wanted something with multi view and something you can just open with one click for the owner. .

I needed something straight forward for the owner. The tech at X10 months ago gave me a GREAT suggestion to use IP CAM VIEWER and it is FANTASTIC ! He says it is the only third party app that supports the cameras so that all 4 cameras appear in one screen.

now, I want to know. WHY doesn't IRIS and FOCUS work on these cameras ?????????????

pkspx, Let me give you a tip.  I have 5 airsight cameras two outside and three inside. I use Blue Iris.  #:) You don't have to have the app up and running to get recordings. It runs as a service. Plus the smart Phone app is great.

I have Windows 8 and IE 10, therefore my XC36A & XC40A cameras do no work / connect....

Thanks!

WE are finally setting up our XX41A camera and cannot use it at all in WIFI mode - mandatory - it needs to be in the barn to monitor mares foaling - Soon!
Software will not work on my windows 8 IE11 camera. No menu service at all for setting up WIFI. WIFI is a secure network.
Your software links are not valid for this camera for Windows 8 IE10. I tried multiple times.
ANY appropriate help would be greatly appreciated. First mare could go any day.

The firmware files links don't work. Because X10 Wireless Technologies went out of business and the new owners of the X10 brand name. Are having problems trying to get the servers back running.

Hopefully someone has the files and can provide them for other users.
Title: How do I update the firmware
Post by: dropframe on February 04, 2016, 10:38:39 AM
How do I update the firmware on my XX34A or XX41A Camera?

Answer
To get the firmware files, please email support@x10.com. In that email, let us know your order number, which camera you want firmware for, what problem you are having, what other steps you have taken to resolve this issue, and why you think a firmware update will resolve your problem. Once we receive this email, we will send your firmware out as an attachment(s) to our reply to your email.

If you get this firmware please let me know. I would like you to email it to me.  I could not get it

I'll see if the files can be recovered from the old servers and let you know.
Perhaps someone still has these backed up some where.

The reason X10 never posted the firmware revisions is the older IP legacy cameras were not coded to prevent you from upgrading to the wrong model or version, which if done, renders them useless – and did not offer a way to telnet to them to flash the ROM to fix them if that did happen.
they wanted to be sure of your FW/WUI versions before sending updates to ensure the correct ones are sent.
In this case the camera versions should begin with: FW: 17.35.2.XXX and WUI: 20.8.3.XXX – and because they are easy to screw up by updating incorrectly you may not wish to update
The updates were only released to update the camera’s ActiveX for use with IE11.
I do have the files but was asked not to post them in the forum to protect users from damaging thier cameras if you still wish these PM me and I'll send them out.
However if they screw up your camera there is no way to repair or revert.

Also I think my other camera is an xx34 xx39? Files?  They've been working fine so far other than being able to change the settings.
