Title: Apple (iphone) entering the automation market?
Post by: HA Dave on May 28, 2014, 01:03:48 PM
I seen products advertised (mostly online) that claim to integrate some of the many flavors of Home Automation (https://www.yahoo.com/tech/smartthings-update-brings-you-one-step-closer-to-having-86422760284.html).

I've been using the Melloware iPhone app to control my X10 setup for sometime... and although it's mostly just a phone-based remote controller.... I like it.

Now.... Apple seems to entering the Home Automation market (https://www.yahoo.com/tech/report-the-apple-smart-home-system-is-coming-next-week-86994617779.html) I can only assume the iPhone and ipad will become a central part of MOST HA setups if Apple jumps into HA.

I have a vision of my phone... becoming my HA computer. Right now I run a (Linux based) security video DVR, and an X10 HA PC (laptop). And... most recently a tiny little netbook-like notebook for remote access. I really like the idea of an ipad and/or phone replacing the home computer for automation. What a step into the future.

Seems like everyone is getting into the act.
Smartlabs just announced that Microsoft in Windows 8.1 is going to be doing automation with the Insteon HUB and a Windows App.
