Title: Alternative to CFL & LED
Post by: dhouston on June 10, 2014, 09:06:40 AM
An alternative technology light bulb is available for preorder. Their website is a little short on details like price, efficiency and bulb life but this is based on Nicola Tesla designs that have been in use for 100+ years. This company has miniaturized the technology to fit it in an A19 bulb. The initial bulbs are not dimmable but those are promised.
The website does have specs - I merely overlooked them.

Interesting.
I wounder how they will work with X10 Relay type switches. As for now they are not in a dimmable version.

The above link, which alerted me to this company, contains more specific specs.

I think they may be a day late and a dollar short if they hope to compete with LEDs. Philips soft-white LED costs less, is more efficient and lasts longer while both have 2700K color temp. Finally, Finally bulbs contain mercury.
Several companies make inductive lights for area lighting, grow lights, etc. Here's a link that explains the technology.

This is the answer I got from their techs when I asked about X10 and/or Insteon compatibility...

We are advised to tell you that our lamps do not include the proprietary decoding circuitry needed to be controlled by these automation systems.  They will work though with any relay switch driven by these protocols.
Given that they are a type of fluorescent, that sorta makes sense.
