Title: Has the WS12A been updated?
Post by: komobu on November 26, 2015, 09:19:54 AM
I installed a complete x10 system in my home in 2007. In the kitchen, I have a three bulb globe wired to the WS12A switch. I installed an led bulb, and now the bulb flickers bad until you adjust the dimming to about 80 or 90%. Then the flickering stops. Also, When I shut it off, the LED bulb doesnt go out. Is there a newer type of X10 switch that will play better with LED? I would like it to be dimable so I dont really want to use the newer relay type of switches.

Thanks for any help

Is the LED bulb rated as dimmable?
It must state that it is or you will damage the ws12a and or the bulb.

Since the WS12A steals power through the load. Most dimmable LED bulbs will not work correctly.
I have tested a few models. Most are not stable or plain just don't respond.

Do you have a unused Neutral power wire in the switch box?

If you have a neutral wire, you could use a WS13A which uses a relay and should work with any LED bulb.

The new X10Pro XPS4 replacement for the XPS3. With the improved power line receiver and a quiet relay. Would also work for an On Off installation.

I have not seen anything on the XPDI3 Inductive dimmer as it also has a neutral connection and does not get power through the load.
Sales page indicated. It many times can cure problems with the two wire dimmers not working correctly with incandescent and other type loads.
