Title: NEW X10 Linked Cameras - How to view via IP address
Post by: euphos on June 03, 2016, 11:23:30 PM
I just picked up one of the new LI2 Linked Stick IP cameras.  Seems to work fine via the Android app, but I cannot figure out how to view the camera on a PC via it's IP address in a web browser.  I got the IP address from the Android app setup info, but it won't connect.  I think there may be some specific port I need to connect to. Anyone have any ideas?

Have you tried running the IP camera tool to locate the camera address on the PC?

Thanks for the reply.  No, I had not tried that.  But, alas, it didn't find it (it only found 2 of the 8-10 cameras I have).  I also tried to autodetect it in the Blue Iris software I use for camera control, and it found it at the IP address, but could not find one of it's standard configs to access the video stream.  The (very short) LI2 manual in it does say you can access the camera via iPhone, Android or PC, so I'm hoping it can be done somehow.

If you find the FCC Database ID number on the camera. It can be looked up in the FCC Database.
It should give you an idea if it was made by X10 or if it was another manufacturers custom labeled for X10.

I don't see anything on the outside of the camera with FCC ID.  Actually most of the text is in Chinese!

Well it was a long shot.

I believe I saw your post on the ipcamtalk forums. In a web search.
Did not look very encouraging.

When you used the IP camera tool did you have the camera connected via the Ethernet cable?

I have a new linked camera with magnet mount in route to experiment with.
I also contacted the owner and specifically asked for someone experienced with this to get some additional info which maybe helpful for my self and others.

Apparently there is a way to view these on a PC using a PC companion app Available here:
http://www.authinx.com/x10/linked/x10Linked.msi
This link can be found on the link camera main page  (https://www.x10.com/linked)(I think it was just added as I never noticed it originaly)
The main thing is you require a smart phone to initially set up the camera (with the smartphone app) it can't be done from a PC due to the way the setup configuration communication works.
Sadly this option isn't on the todo list for the PC Companion app. However for those with out a smartphone but can borrow one for the setup process you can do so then delete the app on the smartphone, you can then access the camera via the PC.
Once I receive my camera I'll see if the setup can be performed via an Android simulator.
However I suspect this won't work.

I have asked some follow up questions which may lead to away of accessing via an IP address.
Also once you have the PC companion app running you may be able to capture the connect string required using Wireshark

I also don't remember seeing the PC Companion available on the cameras web page. When I looked awhile back.

The companion app sounds like it was just created. It also made me think these cameras used a cloud based app.
However I'm told no router is needed to connect to these from the PC ??? ::) :'
I'm assuming you need a WiFi card and it connects direct if it is in range ???
In any case I'm even more interested in playing with one.

For Netgear routers: download "Netgear Genie".  It will show all devices connected to your network (below the Netgear router), showing IP address and mac address.
