Title: Repeated sync time warnings on Android app
Post by: solareclipse on January 22, 2018, 06:08:14 PM
Quite frequently using the Android app I'm getting warnings to sync the hub time.  The error provides instructions to change sync to manual, but the option doesn't seem to actually exist under General Settings.

Go to Settings/General Settings/Adjust time of the WiFi HUB/Sync HUB time with this device

I did, and it continues to prompt me.

Try sync data fro hub then try sync time.
If that fails unplug Wm100 for a few min then plug back in and try sync time again. I'll  see if support has any other suggestions

Also have you tried another outlet?

It sees like maybe the hub is quickly losing time?  When the warning pops up, it looks like this:
App Time:2018-1-23-21:29:35
Hub Time:2018-1-23-21:28:15

I have not tried a different outlet.  It otherwise works fine.

You really should try another outlet a loose connection in the outlet could cause this and if that is the case the outlet needs repair to avoid a fire.

Anyways try:
go to settings and reset to factory.
then click join existing hub
unplug scan QR and plug back in

I'll try moving the WM100 to a different outlet later.

How can I test the outlet itself to see if there's an issue (besides the obvious pulling the outlet out of the wall and checking the connections)?  I can plug my Kill-A-Watt in and look at the Hz and voltage.  Just look for fluctuations?

This might be a good time to ask - is the configuration for the WM100 stored in the app or in the cloud?  Is there some way to back it up so it can be resynched to a new unit?

According to the manual.... the memory is on the unit "built in".

All info for devices, rooms and scenes are stored on the wm100 the reset to factory only resets the app.
Nothing will be lost from the WM100 other then the time and date.
I'm not sure if a kilowatt meter will display info to determine if the outlet is bad but that is a good step to try.
However if the unit works fine in another outlet you can bet there is a issue with the current one.

Actually.... I captured that image right from the advertisement by following the WiFi Module link at the top of the page.

I wonder... I would guess that the module is collecting time from the phone via wifi... and not Bluetooth (used to sync). So it may/might not be necessary to place the module in an area within the occasional BT range of the phone/phones. But I would "just a guess" think the module would need to have a decent WiFi signal.

I don't know if it makes sense that the module would continually/regularly try to sync the time from the phone - what happens when you leave the house? The module should be able to keep time (I assume it has some sort of clock chip in it), as long as it has power. The lack of a battery back-up for the clock is a big "oops" from my standpoint, as is the inability to sync time from the Internet. But nobody consulted me during the design phase  -:)

Or in my case, the phone for emergency use, and is normally in my backpack switched off.

I suspect the app is asking for the time so if your phone is turned off there are no communication attempts.

solareclipse, if you try all my suggestions and still keep getting the sync pop up Authinx suggests delete the app and reinstall as well power down your phone and restart it..
if that still fails to solve contact them for a replacement and they'll ship you out a replacement and a return label so they can look into it.

I wasn't polled either. But I'd be happy with Internet time.... with the phone just sharing original time/date/location and router connection selection and password.. No battery to ever replace... and the update after a power outage would be automatic.

mind if I ask what firmware version?

SETUP>GENERAL SETTINGS>CHECK FOR FIRMWARE UPDATE

So then I got to thinking - I installed this on my iPad and I haven't seen this error.  I wonder if it's an Android thing.  So I installed the app on my wife's phone - no warnings.  So I ran all three devices side by side and turned on and off random lights, and the only device that popped the warning was my Pixel XL.  Then I also observed the time doing odd things on my phone - like suddenly being a minute ahead or two minutes behind.  Wacky!  So I turned off the automatic time sync from network and I haven't seen the error again.

Now also odd is that the time on my phone(s) and my iPad appears to be about a minute different, but I never see the warning on my iPad.  I would see the warning on my phone when it appeared to be out of sync by less than a minute.

So...  maybe the Android app has a tighter tolerance for the time being in sync?  Maybe something wacky is going on with my Pixel XL that's causing the time to bounce around enough for the app to catch it.  I run a Verizon cell network extender at home, so my phones aren't connected to a standard cell tower, so maybe that device does something odd with the time (but it doesn't seem to affect my wife's Galaxy S7 if so).

I'm really not sure what the exact issue is, but I'm pretty sure it's not the WM100 hardware.  Two out of three devices were working normally.  Maybe the answer is just to make the app not prompt to sync the time unless it sees more than a 15 or 30 minute difference.

The app should auto check for updated firmware on each app start up so that shouldn't be out dated. but good thought.

@ solareclipse, glad you figured it out.  :)% Authinx has already requested the time sync be done different but I'll forward your findings and suggestion. Authinx had figured it was your phone. It is interesting that the phone's  automatic time sync from network was the culprit.
thanks for the update.
