Title: X10 LC4 WiFi Camera
Post by: JeffVolp on June 03, 2018, 03:24:30 PM
Has anyone tried one of these?  I'm interested in keeping an eye on things while away, and wonder how well these units work.  Their description shows a smart phone app, but can they be monitored with a computer web browser?

although I don't have one of these they are a x10 linked camera.
I have a ball type like this one https://www.x10.com/cameras/lq2b.html
There is a smartphone app as well as a PC app called Camera Client you have to setup with a smartphone initially, if I remember right.
I don't see the PC app listed so that may be something you have to ask for when ordering.
I may still have the installer somewhere.

It should be noted these linked cameras are cloud based.
you can't access these locally over your Wi-Fi if your internet is down.
These can be set to work stand alone( no internet) just recording to the SD card.
I had suggested the firmware be updated to auto switch to stand alone if the internet went down and back once connection was reestablished. However I've never seen an app update or even if the firmware is upgradeable. :(

Thanks for the info.  I had read that report about not being able to access it if the Internet is down.  While that could be a serious flaw for some, I would probably only use it while traveling.  The sale currently going on is very tempting.

Jeff, for the same Benjamin, or less as it is often on sale for $90, I recommend the Foscam R4 (https://goo.gl/3b6HKy) .  It has an SD slot, an App and can be viewed online from a PC or any other device.  I have two since March and I'm very pleased with them. Excellent resolution, night vision, pan, tilt and decent digital zoom. The R2 version is the same camera with "only" 1080P resolution for $20 less.

Thanks, but I already made the purchase at $35 each + free shipping.  Can't beat that to occasionally check on a couple of rooms while we are away.
