Title: No more X10 crap, waiting for Insteon
Post by: bob on February 01, 2005, 09:28:07 AM
I don't know about the rest of you, but I've
had enough of X10 and this CM15A crap.  I
guess I'll just eat the $50, and wait for
Insteon to be released.  I'm certainly not
going to waste any more money on X10.

I just don't see the failures here. Mine (ver
3.175-177-178) has worked perfectly for
approx 30 days now.  The CM15A is
disconnected from the PC all the time.  I
have approx 20 modules and 3 timers working.
Platform is XPPro/SP2/w all MS updates, Dual
P3, NortonAV.  The only thing I am not
running is macros but that is next.

Bob - why "eat" the $50.  If it doesn't
work, and they can't fix it, X10 MUST give
you a refund, even if you're over the 30
days.

Also - what's Insteon?

Apparently the macros are the problem,
especially on timers and even worse with the
smart macros.  I have a very small system,
and wanted to run one conditional macro on a
timer.   While it functioned from the
interface, it never runs from the timer.  I
sent the info to X10 on their request and
never heard another thing.
X10's auto-select of transceived house codes,
is their work-around to the fact that the
CM15A and some RR501s are incompatible,
causing lock ups.

Insteon is SmartHome's new line of home
automation products.  I don't know much about
it, but has to be better than X10's crap.

It's becoming obvious that X10 will never be
able to solve the software/firmware issues
with this product.  And for all of you who
think that X10 will do a recall if it is the
firmware, THINK AGAIN.

ARF. True, but from what I have read. You
can eat up a good bit of change on HOLD with
X10 Support and I believ it has to be done
by phone. Warantee exchanges [last time I
looked] could still be done online. As a
tinkerer I have mine in a box but may take
it all apart and do unofficial mods to mine.
Mine crashes two days after being moved. No
macros or dusk/dawn stuff. Just a test of
one B1 module ON and OFF twice a day as a
test.
