Title: USB Device Not Recognized

About half the time I connect my CM15A, I
get the error - "USB device not
recognized"  I can get it recognized by
removing the batteries for a minute and
trying again, but that is a work around,
not a solution.  Anyone know what is
causing this problem, and what a real fix
is?

I read someone say that installing
decoupling caps on the two chips and either
side of the voltage regulator solves this
problem (and other lock-up problems).  This
would obviously void your warantee.

The real fix is either there is something
wrong with my PC (either hardware or s/w)
or there is something wrong with AHP or the
CM15A, which X10 needs to fix.  Roger H -
are you then saying it is a hardware
problem with the CM15A?  What is X10's
response, and why don't you (or we) ask
them to fix it?

Arf:  I have not tried it myself yet so I
cannot confirm that it does indeed fix the
problem.  It does make sense to me though and
it would explain why some CM15As seem to be
more reliable than others.

I do know though that it is normal to install
decoupling capacitors across the power rails
physically near each chip to ensure that they
each have a clean power source.  X10 has used
decoupling capacitors in other modules but
they "forgot" to install them in the CM15A.
There has been no response from X10 on this
solution.

Has X10 even acknowledged that this is an
issue with a fair number of users?

Sorry for the delay in responding.. Had a
similar problem & it was resolved after
several re-installs of software (wasn't the
answer) by simply swapping USB ports with
another device. Don't know if this is the
answer, but can't hurt. (Simplicity
sometimes reigns.)Have U tried another USB
cable?

For years we dealt with the "blue screen of
death", and then finally, several
generations later it got better.  This is
the same type of behavior we will all get
use to.

Just pull the batteries and re-sync the damn
thing.  I not do it once a month whether it
needs it or not.
