Title: Sending a signal to my PC when a door opens
Post by: luis gaspar on November 18, 2004, 02:56:35 PM
I have a very simple task but donít know
how to do this, I have a program in a
windows computer, it is a Flash interactive
presentation and I need a way to send a
message to the presentation so it runs a
specific action on the flash presentation
when a door opens, so the flash movie
begins playing.

I need at least one of the options

1)   the flash presentations runs when
the door of the building opens
2)   The flash presentation is send to
the first frame when the building door
opens.

What can I do to get this task accomplished?

Thanks in advance.

While this seems like simple problem, there's
no easy way to do this. There are two problems:

1) Send a signal when a door is opened. There
are two ways I can think of to do this. The
easiest is to use a wireless X10 motion
sensor like the Eagle Eye or Active Eye.
Alternately, you could hook a low-voltage
magnetic contact switch to a Powerflash
module, which would send an X10 signal on the
powerline when the door opens.

2) Run the presentation when a command is
received. This will take some work on your
part, since ActiveHome Pro can't do this on
its own. Are you running your Flash
presentation in a Web browser? Our SDK might
let you do what you need to do. You should be
able to adapt the sample that uses the Lola
remote control to control Windows Media
Player to your purposes. You can see the SDK
