I would really like a recommended solution.
We are expecting a baby and I would like to
monitor him with video and audio. The
solution would most likely have to be wireless.
His room will be right across the hall from
us (where I will have the audio/video
receiver hooked into our TV). I will also
have another audio/video receiver hooked into
our living room TV which is downstairs (two
story house).
Should I go with the lowlight cams being that
it will monitor him sleeping?

Yes, definitely low-light. But you should
know it does require some light. Low light
is not the same as infra-red.
The low-light wireless camera can be
monitored from any TV or computer,
providing you get the reveivers for each
location. Also you will need the
transceiver. If you buy a package deal,
you can usually get different pieces of
hardware and software thrown in for free.

I also would recommend the low-light camera.
I have a b/w camera in my 2yr daughter's
room. With the small TV on or the desk lamp
on I can still see her and what she is doing.
With low-light you will still get a grainy
picture but it not a big deal.

actually the amount of light it requires is
far to much for a newborn baby. you are
better off going with an ir camera. the
picture quality with x10's low light camera
is horrible. extremely grainy to say the
least, dont waste the time or money on it,
you would be better off with a ir wireless
(if you couldnt run the wires) hope this helps

The low light cameras are grainy in low light
but I am still able to see what my kid is doing.
Now if you are going to monitor your newborn
while it is sleeping will there be a light
on? If not the IR is the way to go.
I have one light in my kid's room that is a
using a 40watt light bulb. With the low
light I can see her pretty good even though
there is a grainy picture.

All photography and video is based on
light. The less the light the poorer
quality and more grainy. The low light
cameras are B&W so that they don't need as
much light. If you are monitoring for
safety reasons you will not normally need
colour or broadcast quality video.
If you have a lamp on in the room, you can
put an X-10 module on it, and then use the
built in dimming function to set the light
intensity as you need it while looking at
the monitor. The audio will be very
important.
You could even put a motion detector
directed at the child, and a remote chime
to indicate when there is movement if you
so desire. Lots of options ... and
certainly one is to spend a lot more money
on an infra-red solution. All infra-red
photos and video are black and white as
well ...
And as most people know babies sleep in the
daytime too. Some people don't realize the
purpose of eyelids. I don't know anyone
who puts a baby in a totally dark room at
night. They usually keep enough light to
walk in and check on the baby, which would
certainly be enough for a low light camera.
