Title: electric, hook up a floodlight from a outlet in my shed
Post by: anthony on September 11, 2005, 07:09:48 PM
I have a shed with electric.Outside is an
outlet. How do I connect wire from that
outlet to approx;50ft to a pole where I want
to put a box and hook up the camera
floodlight? Do i leave the wires on the
outlet thats already connected or do they
come off and connect new wires for my flood
light? I appreciate any help.

you need to run live and neutral (black and
white) wires up the pole to the box where
you will installed the floodlight. These 2
wires (live and neutral) will be connected
to the back of the existing outlet your
refer to. You can either remove that outlet
and splice the black and white wires onto
two 50 ft. black and white wires to run up
the pole. OR you can leave the existing
outlet in place and connect two 50 ft. black
and white wires to the terminals on the back
of the outlet. There will likely be two
screw terminals on each side of the outlet.
The existing live and neutral wires TO the
outlet will be connect to one screw terminal
on each side of the outlet. You can connect
the two 50 ft. wires FROM the outlet to the
other screw terminals on each side.
