Title: New TV/DVD - still can't get camera picture
Post by: hrhangell on July 29, 2006, 10:43:48 AM
We are totally baffled - we broke down and purchased a new TV and VCR to run the system.  We can't get a picture from the camera to the TV!  We've checked and the receiver and camera are on the same letter - the receiver is turned on (red light showing) and zip, nada -- HELP!

You using the RF output to the tuner or the composite video and audio cables to the TVs inputs?

The receiver has a TV Out jack and a set of AV jacks. The TV Out sends a TV signal that you connect to the antenna jack of the tv and tune it like a tv station. The AV jacks send an Audio and Video signals to a Addio and Video input of the TV.

We have the yellow plug from the receiver plugged into the yellow plug on the front of the TV.  We brought the camera inside to see if we can get the receiver to pick up the camera picture.  - it doesn't.  We have the TV in AUX mode....starting to feel really dumb here .... ???

I should have verified you have video only or audio video receiver. Yellow is video on my TV also. You may want to double check the manual to make sure things like composite video and not Hi-Def Video is the inputs choice. Oh is the picture completely blank or do you have snow? If snow or noise the camera and receiver are not getting to each other.

My receiver (Model VR 38A) has a "To Tv" silver cable plug, yellow, white, red, power plug in (left to right).  Way more plug-ins than the set up pictures show.  Camera is wireless B/W camera model XC22A.

When we think we have it on the correct channel (AUX setting on TV) we get a mostly black screen with some zig-zagging narrow bands.

The VR 38A is part of the Lola Entertainment package. Are you trying to add a camera to a Lola system? If you got the receiver separately. In the X10 Support Area. Users manual Section. Entertainment section. Download lola-om.pdf. It gives you a bunch of different ways to hook up the signals. I may double check that the VR 38A can receive camera signals, it may not.

I didn't get the camera separately - its what they sent me with my items ... I will check on the Lola receiver and see if that will work.

Thanks!

Try all four channels on the camera. A-D under the small rubber plug on the camera. I didn't see any channel selection on the VR 38A for camera or video channel only the one for TV out on the bottom. I will try the FCC web site again [was down] to see what the VT 38A and VT 37A transmitters are type accepted for. Then I can compare them to the cameras acceptance frequencies.
Silver connector is the RF signal for use into the TVs antenna input. The yellow should be the baseband Video you would put into the aux video in jack.

On the bottom of the VR 38A is a channel switch. Make sure it matches the one under the small rubber hole plug on the camera.

May be helpful and maybe not... You said you have the receiver plugged into the yellow jack on the FRONT of the TV... does the TV have a yellow jack in the back?  If it does, there are probably TWO AUX IN channels that you can "tune" the TV to.

Most TVs treat those as separate but I believe I saw a TV once where the front inputs overrided the back ones. I think it was the exception to the rule, however.

The way electronic devices vary. One has to say read the manual as every manufacturer like to do things their way or how they think we would like it. ::)

;.."their way or how they think we would like it."
I've sometimes wondered which one they favor.

Cheapest way to make it, unless maybe you have a premium system that is on the Gold Standard.

Hey, Y'all!

It's either the "System isn't switch to the proper input channel" problem, or... The statement "Black screen with occasional wavy lines." reminds me that, when an X-10 camera is either faulty, or has insufficient light, you will get a black screen with occasional wavy lines. Try turning the camera off to see if the screen goes blue. If it does, that would suggest to me that you may have a bad camera, or insufficient light.
