??? What happened to the ratings ?
I noticed that the Helpful / Not helpful ratings is gone.  >:(
Did the Bandit steal them ? Hey X10 What's up ?

I like the ratings and was hoping that it would be improved in such a way that a rater could give the reason for the rating.
BRING IT BACK !  >:(

Without a system at least like an eBay one liner, they are totally worthless and I'm glad to see them go.
Many ratings were being given on a whim with several helpful posters being poorly rated.

I agree and glad to see them gone. I can only guess who or multiple who's wanted them taken down and got their way.

It is up to the person reading the post to decide if the post was helpful or not. If one person said it was and another said it wasn't.... what would that mean to a third person??  The boards don't need competition between its members, just good solid input and in most cases a variety of options for the poster with the questions to try out.

I never paid much attention to them. Not sure we could kill a rating. ::)

IMHO...  The ratings were garbage.  They were tied only to the individual who posted the message and not to the message itself.  The individual never was notified of which post was being rated and so could never fix the post.  Basically they turned into a "popularity contest".  You could click helpful or not-helpful on the same post multiple times (an hour or so apart) just to "flame" someone.

I agree with Otis69 that ratings could be helpful, but it would take re-vamping the forum software so that the user giving the rating was identified, as well as having to give a reason, and having a neutral party examine the ratings and reasons.

Given the present state of the forum software, I'm glad to see them go, (even though I did have a positive rating).

I'm not sorry to see them gone. I somehow wound up with a heavily negative post rating and I have no idea where it came from. i don't want them ever brought back.

Again in spite of a high helpful/non helpful rating, I am glad to see them go. I can only guess one of my negatives was from someone that to date has only been active 1 day. I got 1 of my negatives about the same time I got a message from him accusing me of of subjecting him to a "a heavy dose of PMS" after I replied with a list of things to do to trouble shoot in response to his only post on this board asking for help .

I to am glade to see them go. Without accountability they were useless and appeared to be used by some just to flame others. I certainly never looked at the rating in determining the validity of a post.

I see that they are BACK....
So what the heck is going on? Most people realize the rating system is worthless the way it was. Why is it back?

Or just maybe, they plan to improve it....
If so, they should improve it first and then return it with an announcement of the changes. I'm not even sure they can change it. It might be a change that has to be done by the company that wrote the software, SMF.

...On occasion I've received feedback about my post that have allowed me to go back and correct / or improve upon it.
Did someone email you feedback about a post or were you able to cognize which post went with a "not helpful"?  :)

I see the boards are powered by SMF 1.0.6.  There may be no way for X10 to add the feature of giving feedback on a good or bad vote. If I get time I will pop over to their site and see if its an option, if the info is listed at all.

SMF 1.0.8 Released on: August 19, 2006

SMF forum software,  is completely free!

Charter Membership is just $49.95 a year
.

X10 Why don't you upgrade ?
It might be a case of "If it ain't broken, don't fix it." What does version 1.0.8 do that 1.0.6 doesn't?
