Active Home Pro doesn't see a switch turned on
« on: March 21, 2007, 09:33:42 AM »

Just realized that if you have a dimmer wall switch manually turned. the AHP doesn't know that it is on and doesn't report such on the screen modules.  Also, the SDK software using the query function, doesn't see the switch turned on.  But using the AHP software and sending an X10 ON signal, the software sees the light on and reports such as well as the SDK software query function.

Is this a bug or normal operating procedure?

I'd like to be able to have the AHP software check if a light is on (say middle of the night a light gets a line blurp and is turned on), have the software recognize that its on, but shouldn't be at that time of night and turn it off.

This is a normal function!
if you wish to see the status of a modules that has been turned off locally then you need (eg: LM14A) two way modules (these allow polling)  ;)

Is there a module like the LM14A that is an on/off/dimmer wall switch module like the HD467?

I'm not aware of any off hand, but I have no use for one! Check AutomatedOutlet as they deal with several different manufacturers, one of which may make a switch you need! ;)
Update: Here's one I found. there are others!

Also, at the site Tuicemen provided, another switch to look for is the Insteon ICON dimmer switch. When manually turned on or off it retransmits it's X10 address & command onto the power line. AHP sees this and updates the switch's state. You can even create a macro to turn itself off if it comes on during a time frame when it should not be on.

here is a link for ACT stuff which is mostly Two way and some programmable!
Great products and very reliable in comparison to X-10 and others.

http://www.smarthomeusa.com/common/act/specifications.htm

They have what you are looking for maybe try their web site as well.

FYI they now have X-10 as well as Z-wave products and site has good tech notes.

When manually turned on or off it retransmits it's X10 address & command onto the power line.

Does it transmit an 'on'/'off' command, or just returns status?

Just wondering....

True 2-way status request which actually works not X-10 polling and let's cross our fingers I get an answer kind of 2-way. ;D

ACT is more expensive but was built for commercial more than home use. They also use a10 which takes X-10 from 256 to 4096 unique addresses.

You must of read tech notes from uncle Phil?

check this link out it will answer all you need to know about ACT and X-10 protocols.

P.S.Walt I replied to your dawn/dusk problem   ...... it's long but precise.Hopefully I'm wrong but I'm guessing your ahx is  :P ....sorry. :-[ :-\

It definately sends an "on/off" and the X-10 icon will show it.  I just turned my wall switch on and off to check it.  It doesn't indicate dimming (as selected by the switch), however.  Requires a neutral wire in installation, but I'm sure you knew that.

ToggleLinc V2 Dimmer (2466D) - not cheap, but works great! I only have one for a specific bathroom set-up.  You will need a line, load, neutral, & a ground for an installation.
