Rob; I have not seen a full schematic. I
have seen modification information on adding
the external relay to it in the PC board
area where the parts are missing. I have
limited schematics in hand scratch for the
power supply used to drive the relay.
Strange one as the positive side is around
24 volts while the transistor that pulls the
other side of the realy low connects to a -
15 volt regulator.
I still have not found a relay thet matches
the hole pattern and has the proper pinout.
Tht Shack sells one that fits but has the
incorrect pinouts?
www.pigselectronics.com
In their tech tips has this mod and one to
cut the ON OFF cycles needed to trip it.

Thanks Brian H. That looks like a good
website. I would much rather mess with the
horn and leave the keypad alone. With that
information I will have to see how the horns
react when they get here. You could hard
wire the 7volts and make the alarm run
continous(controling them with a light
module), if changing the capacitor value
dosent work...Now that knot in my stomach is
starting to go away..

I tried a smaller cap as a test. With a remote control you can send the on off cycle of address [house and unit] or all lights on all units off on the house code. I got a value of one cycle and the RS unit made it chirp. Problem maybe given earlier in thread. Is the RS sends a on off code on two in line addresses. My guess is the second address is enough to disrupt the cycle count and it doesn't trigger. The PH508 has a powertransformer in it unlike most X10 line derived modules. A dimmer module with the triac output may not work well with a power transformer; and we know a appliance type doesn't respond to the all lights on commands, that a DS7000 sends but would on the on off address sent by the RS Console. Downside of an appliance module is the small sensing current always there that keeps some low voltage supplies on slightly. Mods aviable for those too. Another place for many mods: http://www.idobartana.com/hakb/index.htm

Brian H. ,

Have you ever put a 75watt light bulb in
series? Yes I said series. In my TV repair
days you would put a light bulb in series
with a tv that had a fuse blowing problem
(short). While the short exisited in the tv
the light bulb would glow bright, but not
allow the fuse to blow. When you removed the
short(you get my drift). This would add
alittle resistance to the circuit so the
module would act properly...

OH yes the light bulb trick. I have also got
my fingers too close to the Horizontal
output tube [gave my age didn't I?}. I also
did two way radio repairs for a time.
Nothing like a 125 watt transmitter being
keyed by the owner while you are fixing the
antenna!

I still havent received my sirens yet, but
got to play with the lamp module some. I
didnt realize that it flashed the lights
when you armed it for home. I dont think I
could deal with two 1 second blasts of siren
right before going to bed. So I dont think I
will hard wire them on and plug them into a
lamp module. I think that is why they
designed them not to go off until after a
few cycles. I will have to see how they act
when I get them. I have heard that they dont
work at all too that they only sound for 10
seconds.

Unless X10 has changed them. They sound as
long as the on off cycle on the address or
the All Lights; ON All Units Off from the
DS7000 console or 4 minutes if the cycle is
longer than 4 minutes. The RS unit doesn't
send the codes needed to trigger them
properly. With C12 changed I did get the RS
to chirp the sirens. Note they don't sound
like a real siren either. More like a LOUD
two tone warble for the PH508 and more like
Cricket on Speed for the SH10A.

how does the siren(ph508) sound normally????
I got mine yesterday and have been playing
with that CAP. There is also a resistor in
parallel with it. Depending on how you set
up your leads, there is 14 volts riding on
that Cap when its pulled down to 7 I can get
a steady loud tone out of the siren. I
assume that when it works normally it pulses
that tone???? Quickly????? It appears that
that cap also plays with on time as well....

Normally it has a two tone sound. One when
the ON signal is sent and one when the OFF
is sent. That is after the normal 2-4 cycles
to trip it.

This is interesting. When I got home
yesterday I pluged in my siren with a var.
resistor across the Cap. With a lamp module
pluged in next to it to make sure I had a
signal. After playing with the resistance
and getting no results. I went to the output
pin 5 of the 78566. I was getting no control
pulses out of that chip. I might just have
to jumper in the signal from the lamp
controler after all to see what it does..Yes
I love to tinker!!!!

that the ph508 and rs49-1000 work together
is false advertising.  I can see that I
wasted my money just like many others on
this forum.  I think radio shack should
take these back or else we should all file
a complaint against radio shack!!!  I
wonder if there is a way we could all do
this together.  Mariano
