Newbie, Need security system setup help
« on: May 31, 2007, 10:20:13 AM »

Hi all.  Was the recent victim of a break-in, and want to set up a security system.  Here is what I have in mind, want to know if I can do this using X10 products.

I want to run everything from a PC, I have a couple that run 24/7.  Here is what I want to be able to do.

3-4 cameras, all with motion detection.  Want to be able to record anything going on in the house while im away, and have it emailed / texted to me.

2 door entry sensors, and probably 4-6 window sensors.  Want to be able to customize macros based on these.  Need a siren as well as the ability to cause the cameras to take pictures on entry from any of these points.

Possibly later I will want to implement some home automation, perhaps based on some of these sensors.  I need a way to arm and disarm the system, but am not really interested in adding a security panel....  Any suggestions here?

Lastly want to add a biometric / electronic door lock to the front, do any interface with x10 and perhaps arm or disarm the system when authenticated and unlocked?

Active Home pro with all the plug-ins will do everything you mentioned as I have it doing this! ;)
I have a DS7000 security console but use it at the cottage. The same sensors for it are used with my Active Home Pro setup at home here!

If you order Active Home Pro (software) it comes with the CM15A USB computer interface(Hardware)
Activehome Pro wil only work with this! although other softwar will work with the CM15A.
As for which is the best well that depends who you ask! ;) :D ;D

If that's the way you want to go though, there is plenty of help on how to do it, just search for arming console via macro....
billharrison doesn't wish to use a console

See the link I posted above!
There is a link in that post that explains how to get AHP to show the armed status!
There is still a bug that is mentioned at the end of the post which deals with a console. :( (no new Updates to AHP or any of the plug-ins)
My console is at the cottage so I can't play with that to find a simple work arround if there is one! ::) ???
My wife is like  billharrison she dosen't want a console at the house!

Its not so much that I want a console, more that I am a big PC guy and want to control everything that way.

I think the word is GEEK.

Any suggestion on pc speed i have a couple floating around any recommendations for minimums on that.

If it will run Xp you'll have no problems that way!
It will run on win 98 but you'll have more problems getting all the pug-ins to work! ;)
My wife doesn't want any sirens going off! This way I have voice messages or music as well as lights ;) :D ;D!
