« on: September 05, 2007, 05:09:12 PM »

hi everyone!  this is my first post    :)
i did some search on the forum on the remote disarm for DS7000, and now i know it does not come with keypad.   i am now wondering if DS7000 can be arm or disarm with the active home plug in security software?

Welcome to the forum gogozy.

With ActiveHome Pro and the OnAlert plug in, you can ARM the DS7000 (even over the internet with the MyHouse plug-in).
You cannot DISARM it. (Well not without some extra equipment and a modification.)

You can do what JMac did here but for the DISARM button.

is onAlert same as DS7000?  or perhaps the concept is the same

OnAlert is software/PC based and the DS7000 is completely hardware based.

Both can do similar tasks:

  • 1. Both can monitor DS10A Door/Window Sensors and MS10A Security Motion Detectors

  • 2. Both can be controlled with the various Security Remotes

  • 3. DS7000 can phone you and allow you to listen in when the alarm is tripped

  • 4. OnAlert can email you (if you have MyHouse)

  • 5. DS7000 will flash all X10 controlled house lights that are set to the same House Code and trigger it's internal & any external sirens

  • 6. OnAlert, via AHP (and Smart Macros), can perform much more complicated tasks

  • 7. DS7000 is completely standalone hardware with a backup battery

  • 8. OnAlert requires a PC 24/7 (if it locks up or shutsdown, you loss your security)

IMHO The best solution is to use both. The DS7000 as the main (stable) part of the security system, and OnAlert for all the extra bells & whistles (no pun intended).

As puck stated

I strickly use OnAlert at home(no DS7000) but use just the DS700 (no PC) at the cottage! ;) :D
OnAlert can do evey thing the DS7000 can if you have a voice modem in your PC (except listen in when called), Plus some added bells and whistles!

thanks!!  also am i able to program both onAlert and DS7000 to accept the same sensors?  i guess wha i am trying to do is setup some kind of redundancy so onAlert and ds7000 will have to share all (or selected) sensors.   :D

With the two in the mix you can customize how your system responds to each sensor! ;) :D
