Brighten RF Command doesn't work
« on: November 04, 2007, 08:07:33 AM »

I've spent the last two days searching and reading the FAQs on troubleshooting but I haven't yet found an answer to my problem.

My setup: I just installed a lamp module (LM465) in my bedroom.  I believe it's on a different phase from my CM15a so I also put a TM751 in the bedroom and can now turn the lamp on/off using RF Commands sent from my CM15a.  All is working great.

My problem: I want to be able to dim/brighten the lamp.  I created a macro that uses the "RF Command Dim/Brighten" and it sends a Brighten command of 5% to the house code/unit code of the lamp module.  What happens is the light turns on 100%.  I tested the lamp module by moving it to a different room that is on the same phase and dimming works perfectly when controlled from AHP directly.

The AHP log looks correct to me:
  Transmit RF A Bright
Receive A Bright 5% (Floor Lamp)

Any ideas why it won't brighten/dim when using RF Commands?

Thanks,
Greg

If anyone cares I think I figured out the problem.  I think it's a bug in AHP.

No matter what % I use in the RF Dim command it only gets sent by AHP as 10%.  It doesn't matter if its Dim, Brighten, or Absolute.  Always 10%.  I was using large Dim numbers and didn't notice the small 10% dimming that was happening

So if I send:

Turn A3 ON and dim to 50%(RF Command)

The lamp turns on and only dims 10%.

Activity log looks like this:

   11/08/2007 6:41:19 pm    Transmit RF    A3 Off
1    11/08/2007 6:41:20 pm    Transmit RF    A3 On
2    11/08/2007 6:41:20 pm    Receive    A3 (Floor Lamp)
3    11/08/2007 6:41:20 pm    Receive    A Off (Floor Lamp)
4    11/08/2007 6:41:20 pm    Transmit RF    A Dim
5    11/08/2007 6:41:21 pm    Receive    A3 (Floor Lamp)
6    11/08/2007 6:41:21 pm    Receive    A On (Floor Lamp)
7    11/08/2007 6:41:22 pm    Receive    A Dim 10%(Floor Lamp)

Sounds like a bug in AHP maybe?

A couple of things here.. Does your lamp module have a "soft Start". Also it looks like you have the transived house code also sending an rf command. Try this:  Change the macro so that the rf command is not on the same house code as your lamp module. It maybe that the rf and powerline signals are "cross talking "to each other.

Sorry after thinking about it that won't work.. did you make sure that your CM15A is set to transieve the house code? In AHP: Tools -HArdware Configuration

Well it seems that I must have been dreaming.  How old do you have to be before you can call it a "senior moment" :) Today I cleared the CM15a memory and reloaded the macros.  Now it works as I expect.  I could have sworn I tried that yesterday but evidently I didn't.  So now I'm good to go.

Thanks,
