Need advice: water leak detector + linux software
« on: November 20, 2007, 11:16:21 PM »

Hi all,

I'm a complete novice in X10, and need advice from this forum: what would be the minimum number of components that would let  my linux box monitor for water leaks? It runs Ubuntu. Please advice what hardware components I should buy and which Linux x10 software you think would work for this.

As I said before, I have no X10 devices whatsoever, but my linux box already does many things around the house like a champ.

Thanks a lot,

I.

I have a couple of these alarms, which run about $15 each.

Right now they're running stand-alone, but my plan is to connect an X-10 PSC01 Powerflash unit to the siren in the alarm to provide an X10 signal on the power line.

An X-10 CM11A interface and HEYU software (http://www.heyu.org) will let you do whatever you want from your Linux box when it receives the X10 signal.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

Here is another option for a water/moisture sensor. Its a bit more money and hooks to a power flasher.
