manual information on VT43A and VR43A

I have a set that is, I think, a VP43A conxixting of a VT43A and  VR43A unit.  I have not used this system for a couple of years and now I cannot find the manual.  Questions:  Does the IR for the remote control really woprk?  It passes video and audio well, but I cannot get the IR control to work.  I am using a motorola 6214/2000 casble box.
