Audio over phone line / Mono amplifier question
« on: January 30, 2008, 06:19:06 PM »

Hello!

I'm new to X10, and recently read "Smart Home Hacks." One of the projects it describes is to use a spare phone extension for (lo-fi) audio, by connecting a server's audio output to the phone line through a mono amplifier, and connecting speakers around the house using spliced-in RJ11 plugs.

I'm surprised how hard it is to find a mono amplifier online, and how few references I see to this idea on smart-home forums. Is there a better way I should be using instead? Or can anyone give me some pointers to get started?

Thanks!
Len.

if you can't find a mono, buy a cheap stereo and merge the input with a "Y" connector. Then you can use just one side of the amp.
