Camera used to work, well some of the time!
« on: September 10, 2008, 07:55:02 PM »

Ok, I have a wireless camera, vcr commander and a eagle eye motion detector next to the camera.  Sometimes it works but most of the time not.  The vcr commander is recording and shutting off correctly and it seems the motion detector does tell it when to record.  Sometimes it seems that the module that I thought I needed to get the signal to the vcr commander is turning the camera off instead of on?  Please help, do I need the module or should the signal from the motion detector get to the vcr commander through the house wiring?
Thanks,
S.

What module did you think you needed and mentioned with no details?

Do you have any other X10 RF transceivers like a TM751 or RR501?

X10 wireless cameras have an addressable power supply with the House and Unit Code dials. What is the address it is set to?
Do you know what the motion sensors address was set to or is it the default A1?

The cameras are controlled in groups of four. House Code and Units 1-4;5-8;9-12 or 13-16. Turn one on the other three go off. Any other X10 stuff in the home that could be sending an X10 power line signal and maybe turning the camera off?

By default when powered up the camera is on. So unless something is turning it off. By default the video should always be on.

Well the module I was talking about is really a transceiver model #tm-751.  I thought I needed it to send the signal from the motion detector to the VCR commander?

The VCR Commander receives an RF signal direct from the motion sensor. The TM751 is only needed if your set up requires the camera to be turned on when motion is detected.

That is the way I thought it would work.  Can the motion detector ever be too far away from the VCR Commander to trigger it?
Thanks for all your advice and knowledge.

Yes it can be too far.
Many times it depends on where and what the motion sensor is mounted on. What is it mounted on?
Also what is between the motion sensor and the VCR Commander. Are there things like walls between the two?

It is mounted on cedar siding at the very top of the outside wall on the first floor.  Directly above it is a deck.  The VCR Commander is on the 2nd floor across the house with two walls  between, and a vertical distance of about 6 feet and horizontal distance of maybe 25'

Is my location too far for this to work?  If so what is a fix for it.   I am not sure that i can get much closer?
Thanks in advance,

There is no specified distance. Yours maybe kind of long to reach.
Small test. Get some light wire. Maybe 18" long. Wrap a few inches around the commanders antenna and let the remaining stick up above the original antennas length. See if that does anything.
