AHP active home on two computers?
« on: September 24, 2008, 04:48:43 PM »

Before i waste time fiddling with it..Can anyone tell me straight up if i can install on a new computer?

Can i either import all my modules & macros from one computer to the other OR create new modules & still control them equally as well as if i was on the other computer?

I would like to control modules & macros from 2 separate computers..not only import from one & then use the 2nd exclusively.

thanks.

You can have two separate copies (that means your original and a new copy, so you have to pony up another 49 bucks) of AHP (and two CM15As) on two computers, but both copies have to be on different housecodes or each one will change the other copy, plus any macros will interfere with each other, events will run at the same time one each machine.

BTW, you can transfer a licensed copy of AHP from one PC to another PC.

Ok, yeah thanks. That answers my question.

I won't bother buying another copy & playing around with it like that. I just wanted to be able to control things with my laptop vs desktop.

Thanks.

Yeah I depend on my AHP so much I keep a complete copy of AHP (and everything) on a "back-up" PC. Just call X10 with your purchase info.. and they will email you a link and a code.

tsttm you can add AHP to another computer but the cm15a would need to be connected to that!
How ever there is a work around to this!  :)%
Several third party programs will allow computers on the same network to control X10 devices programed into them!
One such program is X10Dispatch I've used this without any problems!  ;)

ok thanks. but i still need to purchase a 2nd copy of AHP right?

My needs aren't high enough to warrant doing that. i was just curious if there was a free way to do it.

You can only use one copy of AHP at a time you don't need to purchase a second copy!
If you use a thirdparty software it uses the SDK (which x10 distributes freely) not AHP! AHP wouldn't need to be on your second computer either and is of no use other then as a back up!

I have AHP installed on two computers, but I only run it on one computer.
I set up a fresh win xp sp3 server here and moved my cm15a to the new server.
It did not ask for any license or stop me from installing it on the new computer.

The other computer still has AHP installed on it.

I did move my cm15a back and forth a couple times during the server setup to check all my settings and it worked on both computers.

To transfer all your settings, just copy your main .ahx file that has all your settings, to your new computer.
There may be some .xml files also, can't remember.

If you are networked and don't mind having both pc's on, maybe a remote control program like PcAnyhere might work for you.

No need for that, you only need Remote desktop sharing turned on.

It's free in XP and it works great.

I control my server XP box from other PC's on my network with Remote desktop.
