At work you are probably out of luck.   Check with your administrator, I'm sure port 8001 is blocked for a reason.

Can you use something like logmein.com

I use logmein and can usually log into it from anywhere.  I travel allot for work so I haven't had a problem at customers. hotel or even McDonald's.

It allows you to remotely use the desktop the camera software is on. So you can do just about anything with that computer from work.

Is there a fee,,, where do i get the software...?
so if im understanding basicly you are saying i can drive my pc at home from work instead of trying to get the video feed from x10...?

You get it at www.logmein.com. When you sign up for it you get all the features they offer free for 30days. Then after that you get the remote access for your computer and its still free... You just don't get the remote printing or file sharing free after the 30 days.

I use it all the time and it works great. Its beats myhouse cause it works all the time lol plus cause you can control anything on that computer. I use it to view my cams which are not hooked up to any x10 software and I still can control my AHP.

No offense guys... but aren't you missing the point here. The reason such things are blocked at work are two fold... security and cost.

  • Most home computers aren't well enough protected... to safely connect to a network (even remotely).
  • Bandwidth infrastructure is much more costly than most people realize. Your employer will be paying much of the cost so you can view your cameras from work.
  •

As a former network administrator I can assure you.... most employers frown on such practices. Getting fired may not be the desired effect your looking for.

No missed point here lol .... for every block there is away around it  rofl  and unless the company said you can not use remote desktop programs then I see nothing wrong with it. If they let you on the internet then checking on home isn't that bad unless you are viewing the cams all the time at work then bandwidth use is not that much. Just stay away from the porn and such  rofl

In fact allot of companies use remote desktop programs for people who work from home or away from the office sometimes. That way they can see anything they might have forgotten or need. I'm guessing that's why I haven't seen a company that blocks it yet.

But if your company blocks all that then there isn't much you can do. Just suggesting away that they might not care about.

Yeah... it never hurts to ask. And most of the time... asking is the right thing to do. Most blocks do have cheats-around... and it is never a good idea to use the cheat. The block is there for a reason... and slipping around a "back-way" is impossible to explain or defend.

Dave is right.....asking if they want you to or not is a good thing. No one wants to get fired  >!

Either way Logmein isn't  a cheat or work around program it is just a remote desktop program and there is allot of them out there to use. Good luck and hope you find away to view your Cams.
