X10 Plan for my new home ... Any advise?
« on: December 02, 2008, 07:14:45 PM »

Hi guys !

After some research, I finally have a (draft) X10 Plan for my new house, I attached a couple of images that show the plan.

 -:) SOME COMMENTS NOTES:
- XPDI3 = for the better electrical support & dimmer ability
- XPS3 = to control fluorescent lights (CFL)
- XPSS = for a 3-way installation in the staircase's lights
- XPCR = to improve the X10 signal
- LM465 = to control some dimmer lamps
- SC503 = to control my X10 staff from the main bedroom
- XPT/XP4A-W = I'll install one in the main bedroom, to control staircase, kitchen, and lobby, and All On/Off
- SS13A = one in each bedroom
- CM15A + ActiveHomePro = they will be installed in the office

I'd really appreciate you assistance and advises. Thanks in advance!

Regards!   >!

Well first nice thread and pics. You have put allot more thought in the setup then most. lol I just bought a box of stuff and went with it.

With all your putting in don't you want to use AHP and a cm15a to give computer control to the house or even another computer program and interface.  Automate it.

............don't you want to use AHP and a cm15a.

amunoztico didn't list any software... but did have a CM15A in the hardware list.

Nice Job amunoztico!  #:)

So whats your over-all plan? Goals? Do you plan on controlling everything with timers? I didn't see any use of motion sensors. Have you considered Voice Command <link as part of your setup.

Thanks guys for your posts.

I updated the pictures.

- CM15A and ActiveHome Pro = will be located the office (1st Floor).

- Sensors = I will install a sensor in the staircase.  I don't know where install more sensors. Any advise?

- Cameras = I will consider in a second step to install a camera in front of my house.  For example, my wife wants to know who is at the door when she is in the kitchen or the bedroom.

- Security = The home is on a condominium with security system, so, I don't sure to install a security system soon.

- Voice command = I will review this topic.. It is new for me.  Thanks Dave!

- Timers = I think to control all with AHP... Do you think that Timers could be an option? Where and When?

- Goals = my main goal in my first installation is to control all the lights and some appliances (I have to selected them).  I got a couple of remote control for the TVs (family room and main bedroom). I expect to control some lights from those remote control as well.

Things like LCD TV's and Cell phone chargers are just a few things that give off power line noise that can effect your X10 signal. So a couple noise filers are good to have just in case you find something like that.

Here is some examples. Again this is just one site that sells them even Ebay.com has good prices!!

The CM15A has poor range issues. So check out this post for fixes on that and any other helpful stuff!

One other thing is the XPS3  you have listed require a neutral connection. So make sure your switch box's have neutral wires in them.

Thanks Jsnlong for your post...

-- Yes, the house is wired with 220V and then is split in two.   I think to install a Phase Coupler (as XPCR) in the main electrical box (see the 1st floor picture, below to the kitchen). However, I don't sure how it must be wired.    ???    I visited the link that you posted, there are a lot of Phase Coupler... what is the better?  X10, Leviton, HAI, ?

-- I expect to have a home theater surge suppressor in the family room (LCD, PS3 and other staff will be connected to the surge suppresors)  . Do I have to install a filter for each devices or just one for the surge suppressor?  What filter is a good option?  What do you think about this one: http://www.smarthome.com/4845ACF/15-Amp-Plug-In-Noise-Filter-AF120/p.aspx ?

Thanks so much.

Regards!
