One more 'wireless-to-wired' camera question....
« on: July 26, 2009, 12:34:54 PM »

I've been struggling a bit with this wireless-to-wired concept.
Although I've read thru Puck's explanation I'm still a bit confused and perhaps someone could assist me.

When I find all those wires in the camera:
Black: Ground
Blue: Signal Return
Red: Power
Yellow: Video
White: Audio

Which ones do I connect to the wires of the telephone cable, all of them or
just the audio (white) and video (yellow)?
The camera's blue and black wires are also connected together?

Lastly when I connect the other end of the telephone cable to a male rca
plug for input to my VA12A which cable wires get soldered/connected to the
middle connector and which go to the outside part of the connector?

Thanks.

You can tie the signal return & ground together for one wire in the phone cable. The other 3 wires would be power, video & audio.

The middle contact of the RCA plug is the signal and the outer contact is the signal return (ground). For the VA12A, make sure the center contact of the RCA is wired to the yellow wire at the camera and the outer contact is wired to the signal return/ground.

Ok Puck.
That being said, after connecting the appropriate wires at the camera does that mean that when wiring the RCA plug I take all three phone cable wires (red, yellow, white) and solder them to the middle contact and solder the other wire (black/blue) to the outer contact?

NO. The black (or black/blue) on the outside shield wire and yellow in the center = video. The black on the outside shield wire and white in center = audio. RED should remain seperated from the others.

Covert a wireless x10 Floodcam to a wired camera?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Has anyone had any success in converting the x10 FloodCam to a wired unit?

I'm ready to trash mine because of all the interference. I have never gotten a clean usable picture...

If no one has modified the Motion Cam and you get no responses, have you looked inside the motion cam? My bet is you will find the same color codes as defined by Puck in thread beginning:
Red = power
Black = ground
Yellow = video
White = audio (if used).
These colors are something of a convention in that they are the same colors used to define VCR patch cables. X10 probably maintains the convention through out their camera lines simply for standardization in the manufacturing process (at least that would make sense.....).
