gate.x10.com crashes
« on: November 08, 2009, 02:08:19 PM »

Hi
I recieved my webcam today and it works great sending a nice clear image to my PC.
I go to http://gate.x10.com and internet explorer crashes.
The sceen is black and then it closes the window.
I use IE 8 with windows vista. I live in Houston TX, and I use ATT uverse if that means anything.
Not too sure what I am supposed to do to get this to
work. Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks!
Phil

There's something very wrong with  http://gate.x10.com.  I tried it through the link you provided with Firefox 3.5.5 and I got a totally black screen, but Firefox didn't crash.

I just tried it and also got the black screen. IE8
I also may have gotten a clue. A security notice popped up and basically said IE has blocked a site from installing an ActiveX Control on the computer. So it could be a Security Setting blocking the site.

ActiveX and firefox aren't compatible.  There is a firefox extension that allows for a work-around, but it essentially opens a virtual IE tab.

Thus explains Dan's conundrum

I have tried the last couple days to get onto this.  I am unable.   Is the http://gate.x10.com server having problems?

I have tried a couple machines all with different versions of IE.   Everyting from IE 8 to IE 7

This is very frustrating

X10 may know if the servers are having problems.
Since the forums are mostly volunteers. We may not have that information on server conditions.

To jkmcc and philby:

I feel your pain.  The server issue is nothing new and I've personally had problems since 2007 and I think the forum has posts indicating the same dating back much farther.

Here's the work around:

Real VNC or LogMeIn.  Both have a free version available and will let you run things remotely.

An advance search on the above two will turn up much discussion on the pros and cons of each.

Well first off hello folks, Not sure if anyone has explained it but herewe go:
1. on the man Vanguard screen (your pc), click optons, then remote user. There is a access ID number, write it down. then you have to crate a password. now click on the connect button. it should display (online)
2. now open your browser to (http://gate.x10.com/).
3. put your mouse curser on the little vanguard window and right click on it to make it 100%. You sould be looking at the remote vanguad sceen.
4.on the remote vanguard screen click on the connect button. a pop up window will display asking for a user name, password and access id. create a name put your password in and put the access id you wrote down, then hit connect.
5. the screen should say accessing image. wait a few seconds and it should come up. But if you have low bandwidth it might not come up to fast.

it took me a while to get it up and going. Hope this helps. >!
