Easy Question I hope - MS16a transmissions
« on: January 08, 2010, 07:10:10 PM »

I've dusted off my old Powerlinc Serial device and have it plugged into COM1.  Dusted off the old code to make sure I can still turn A-1 on, off, etc... :)

I just bought my first motion sensor - the MS16a.
Watching the serial port - it seems to announce it's desire to say something, when motion detected, by sending a 0x78 ('x') byte.

I'm just wondering if that's standard for all the motion sensors?
If I bought an MS14 - would that cause the Powerlinc to receive an 0x78 byte too?

Or -- does the 0x78 come from the Powerlinc - in other words, if I watched the serial port communication between the MS16a and my CM11a -- would I see a different set of bytes sent???

I hope this question (a) makes sense and (b) is posted in the right forum.
If there's a better place to ask, please let me know...

Thanks!

You are talking about a Smarthome 1132B PowerLinc?

Do you have the programmers manual?

http://www.smarthome.com/manuals/1132B_Programming.pdf

The manual doesn't go into receiving X10 commands in any details.
My tests show that 0x78 is the X10 received character and would be the same for any X10 message received. From any X10 device or power line controller. The last byte 0D is a charage return.
By studying the charts you should be able to figure out the sequence. If not ask and I will try and get more data for you.
My short test of A4 AOn showed.
A4:   78 46 54 31 0D
AOn: 78 46 45 31 0D

Motion sensors default to A1 but can be set to any of the 256 X10 addresses.

The CM11A has a different serial protocol. The data you would see from it compared to the 1132B would be completely different.

Thank you Brian.

Yeah - I have that "manual" and used it to get the basics working.
It talks only about receiving extended commands and tells me to watch for an 'e' on the line.

That's why the 0x78 thru me a bit.

Thanks for the clarification that what I'd see from my CM11A would be different.

Maybe I'll order one MS14  ??Hawk?? Eye and see what it does just for giggles.
