inline dimming module for ceiling fan
« on: January 13, 2010, 07:34:36 PM »

I was looking at some of the inline modules for my setup, but I cannot seem to find one that will work with a ceiling fan.  Do they make a dimming  module that will work for inductive loads?  I am looking at them for my current ceiling fan/lighting fixtures to dim the lights and control the fan speed.

No, there is no inline dimmers for inductive load control.

You could hack one by putting an inductive dimming wall switch (XPDI3) in a box above the fan. But be advised the fan will buzz or hum with an "inductive" dimmer. It isn't real bad but probably too loud for a bedroom.

There is only one PLC - X10 wall switch will not cause the fan to hum. It uses capacitors to change the fan speed rather than triac control (three speeds).
