Author Topic: Can I activate a voice dialer with a Burglar alarm interface or UM506  (Read 5738 times)

I would like to setup a water alarm to a voice dialer like PS561.  Can I trigger the dialer with a burglar alarm interface or Universal module or am I limited to using a DW534 sensor??
Although I've been using x10 since the old BSR days I still consider myself a novice in some areas so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. (I am brand new to this forum)
Thanks,
Jerry

Hi jheere: You are limited to a device that can be registered to the base that sends a security code. The door/window sensor is the easiest one to use for interfacing to an external device.

I was afraid of that.  At least now I know for sure.

Puck,
A followup question:  I plan to use this water alarm primarily when I'm on vacation. From what I read in the manual the PS561 will continue to dial fpor 4 minutes and then it will stop. WI assume it will continue to dial again in 4 minute cycles  as long as the alert condition exists.   If the alert is corrected and there is no longer a signal coming from the window sensor will it be ready to go if the problem returns or is human intervention necessary?
I asked that question of one of the X10 technical support people but he didn't know.

Good questions. Some testing may have to be done to find out for sure what happens after an alert has been triggered. I do know the alarm stops after 4 minutes and will not start back up until another alert is detected.

The door/window sensors send their current state (check in signal) approximately every hour. If the water detector alert corrects itself, the sensor will send a "closed" signal and the base station should then be monitoring that sensor again in the event of another alert signal. Now what I'm not sure about is if the alert condition stays and is still there after an hour, will the check in signal re-trigger the alarm? Or is the base station designed to ignore multiple consecutive alerts until after a condition cleared signal is received?

Now I'm curious to how it responds.
