Where are the X10 Software Developers?
« on: February 25, 2010, 10:24:58 AM »

OK I know there are some!
X10 still retains some as the Socialite remote is proof of that.

What's included:
                                                                    List Price
1 Wireless PC Transceiver (CM19A)                      $49.99
1 Socialite iconRemote (IR33A)                            $69.99
1 X10 Socialite Software (SW40A)                               $49.99

Would you trust that software to tell every one (mom and kids included) what your watching?  rofl
What are they working on now ?
Or the real question is:
When will they fix/update X10s other buggy software? ???

Apparently they have the same location as the Quality Engineers and Quality Inspectors.

Like everything else, I'll bet the development was contracted out.

Today's contracts typically specify development and delivery.

Making it work.
Making it bug free - is often extra $$  :)

The Socialite Remote runs a lot of Devices, it's listed as "the only TV remote in the world that lets you rate TV shows and instantly updates your facebook page. In addition to rating TV shows, you will also be able to control just about everything in your home (RF and IR), from your cable, TV and DVR to your lights, living room fan and popcorn maker. This is the last remote you will ever need!" AND you can send your TV ratings to FACEBOOK!!!!   That is if you even use it.

Why the developers (and the President of X10USA, who heavily promotes it on the page!) chose this instead of a new (and bug-free) version of ActiveHome Pro is beyond me.

Dan and all,

I'm betting that x10 somehow makes money on the ratings.  Like bypassing Neilson.

Interesting. Makes sense, because like I said in different post, to me; Socilite Remote is a solution looking for a problem. Maybe I should give X10 more credit.

OK I thought about it   rofl

And it will just up and die on ya.
Then no more tv channel rating and you will go into withdrawals with your old stupid cable remote.

I've been bailed out, but it's still fresh in my mind.

Talk to anyone (that is audio-video savvy) about theater remotes... and it's almost to the point of: "what model Harmony-logitech do you own".

X10 has been a huge manufacturer of third party multi-device (theater) remotes for many years. The Harmony remote have taken over the industry... grabbing a bears share of the market. X10 had to do/try something innovative. Sharing with facebook (if you use facebook) is pretty darn cool. The "big money" in technology sales... is generally spent by people... much younger than myself. I would guess this could be a very popular feature even if it doesn't appeal to the "over forty" crowd.
