What are the little snap in knobs called for the remote
« on: April 27, 2010, 02:07:15 PM »

I saw it somewhere, I think on eBay.  It was a bag of "dials" or "knobs" that snap into the house code and unit code spot on the remote.  What are they called?  Where can I find them?  Do they work well?  Sure would be nice to change the house code on my remote without dragging out the ole screwdriver or digging for a dime.  Can you help me find what I am looking for?  Thanks.

Smarthome also has them. I vaguely remember someone saying they didn't fit Palm Pads because the plastic cover over the label was too thick.

Brian's information is correct.   When plugged into the code dial of an HR12A remote, the Code Clicker doesn't extend far enough above the clear plastic label cover to enable getting a grip on it.

Another forum member (sorry, I forget who) posted about cutting a tab out of the plastic from a CD/DVD "crystal" case and super-gluing it into the HR12A dial slot.

Yesterday it worked.
Today it doesn't work.
X10 on Windows is like that.

FWIW

I hot glue metal washers into the slot of the house code dial on Palm Pads. Typically holds up well for about a year then needs to be re-glued. I can't remember the washer size number, but they are about the size of a dime.

Just to throw two cents into the bucket, I don't much see the point in these for lamp and appliance modules.  I mean it's not like you change your H/U code dials on a daily basis.  For the most part, you set them, plug them in and they are forgotten.  Or as Ron Popeil would say, "Set it, and forget it"  rofl  When I need to install a new module and set the H/U codes, I usually have my tools ready.  I can kind of see a point in having one on a palm pad, because there have been occasions where I have wanted to send a command that is on another house code and the dial is a bit of a pain even with a dime.  But in that case, design a dial to work for the palm pads.

That was on nice feature X10 used on the OEM B&D Freewire Modules. They had knobs you could grip with your fingers.  :)%
