XPT and PR511
« on: July 08, 2010, 12:56:29 AM »

I have a PR511 that has a light switch in it's electrical path. I always leave the light switch on and put a cover over it so it can't be turned off which would kill power to the PR511. However I have been wanting to put an XPT in place of that switch so I can control the PR511 (in bbq mode), outdoor party lights, the bug zapper, and the 500gph pool pump. Then I thought that if the XPT does not complete the circuit the PR511 would not have power for motion sensor activation. Can anyone verify for me?

If I read your message correctly.
You want to remove the standard switch and install an XPT. Having power always to the PR511.

Remove the old switch.
Splice the Hot Line and Load line from the old switch together with the Line terminal of the XPT.
Connect the Neutral in the switch box to the Neutral of the XPT.
Old switch gone and bypassed for power to the PR511. XPT powered to control X10 devices.

One small point.
As an X10 powerline transmitter. The XPTs electronics may absorb some X10 signals and it the original setup was marginal. It may cause weaker X10 signals on that branch circuit.

That will work fine.  Here our floodlights are all wired hot and controlled by Leviton 16400s at several locations around the house.  Each can control all our exterior lights.  The 16400 functions similar to the XPT, but has LEDs to indicate the status.

Thanks, I was actually looking at the 16400 instead of the XPT because you can label it. This sounds like it will work then.   >!
